Extreme Cold Shuts Down Geneva Public Schools Monday

Wind chills are expected to get as low as 45 below zero Monday, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.

Geneva School District 304 officials made the call to close public schools Monday, due to the extreme cold weather.

"All Geneva School District schools will be closed and all activities canceled on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 due to extreme weather," the District 304 website says.

Extreme cold is expected again Tuesday, so stay tuned to the website for further updates.

The School District closed schools Monday, Jan. 7, and Tuesday, Jan. 8, this year.

Wind chills are expected to get as low as 45 below zero Monday, according to the National Weather Service Chicago. a Wind Chill Warning is in effect from 3 a.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Wednesday. (That's right, Wednesday.)

The last day of school for the 2013-14 school year would have been Friday, May 30, if there had been no days off due to weather conditions. Now, the last day likely would be Wednesday, June 4, and more than that if students stay home Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

District 304 notifies the legal guardians of all students through use of Geneva School District’s emergency notification system. The system calls the guardian’s primary and mobile phone numbers and send a message to the guardian’s email address, provided that current phone and email information is on file in the District’s student information database.

In addition, school cancellation and late start notifications are tweeted to the district’s @Geneva304 Twitter account followers, posted on Geneva School District’s website and emailed to all 304 Connects subscribers.

Families may also call the District’s Administrative Offices – (630) 463-3001 – to hear a recorded telephone message concerning school closings and late starts.
