Last Classic Car Show of the Summer, Cute Pet Contest and More—5 Things You Should Know for Thursday, Aug. 25

2. Join the for a talk on what it was really like for immigrants to come over to America on a steam ship in the 1800s. Speaker Marian Schuetz is a noted genealogy instructor and will provide insight into the reality of immigration travel. 

3. Head over to the Sterling Manor neighborhood for a from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2832 Spruce Ct. There are many great things for sale from IKEA furniture to an antique conference table. Other items include artwork, bed frames and computer equipment. 

4. Today is the last day to submit your pet's photo to the Cute Pet Contest at State Street Jewelers in Geneva. Judging will take place Aug. 26 through 28. The winner will receive a 14k gold and diamond dog tag valued at $1,500. 

5. The last will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Fourth and James streets in the courthouse parking lot. There will be plenty of food, music and family fun to be had by all. Admission is free, so come out to enjoy some end-of-summer fun before it's too late.
