Valley was a huge leap for me.  I was raised in the far northwest suburbs and then spent most of my adult life in the city.   When I moved to Chicago to attend DePaul my suite-mate was a swimmer from St. Charles.  I remember seeing her dorm room stocked with Fighting Saints Swim memorabilia and thinking, "Wow, they have a huge swim team in St. Charles..wait..where the heck is St. Charles?" If someone would have told me then that I'd be writing for patch.com as The St. Charles Shopper I would have never believed them.
