How About a 'Beer Float' From the Ale House?—5 Things You Should Know for Wednesday, Aug. 3

And, you can celebrate summer's perfect fruit with National Watermelon Day.

Taste an adult ice cream float tonight at Geneva Ale house, made with the finest Geneva ice cream and delicious local beers. 

Or, hang out with the family in Batavia during a free concert in the park.

1.  invites group owner Shari Ralish to speak from 6 to 7 p.m. at the in Geneva. Ralish will discuss how to understand the labels on body and beauty products and the ingredients to avoid when keeping eco-friendly.

The Fox Valley Sustainability Group is for people concerned about the environment and living green. They regularly have speakers on sustainability, holistic living, bio fuel, ecology, gardening, natural living, slow food and more. To find out more, please visit their website by clicking here

2. National Watermelon Day is a celebration of what some would consider to be the summer's most-beloved fruit. Watermelon is believed to have come from the tropical regions of Africa, and watermelon seeds were found in King Tut's tomb. The fruit was reportedly introduced into the Massachusetts area in the year 1629. 

Watermelon is high in vitamin C and the amino acid citrulline. The rinds, while un-appealing to most people, has many nutrients and are often used as a vegetable in China.

3. Batavia's  at 7 p.m. on Houston Strett and North Island Avenue. Blue Voodoo has sounds of classic rock with a southern roadhouse influence. 

You can bring a blanket, chairs and a picnic to the park for a night of family entertainment.

4. Join for Back to School Preview Day from 3 to 6 p.m. at their center at 2323 Fargo Boulevard in Geneva. This week's theme will be, Alphabet Fun—Developing Literacy and Language Skills. Please RSVP to the center prior to attending. 

5. Head over to for the Beer Float Ice Cream Social with Two Brothers Brewing Company and . You can taste all different kinds of Two Brothers beer with a Graham's ice cream float. This event runs from 3 to 11 p.m.
