Free Hearing Screenings and a Riverwalk Concert: 5 Things You Should Know For Wednesday, June 29

Here are today's must-know items in Geneva.

Geneva has many interesting things going on Wednesday. From free hearing screenings to a concert in the park, there's something for everyone to enjoy on a sunny summer day. 

Here is a list of our five favorite events in the area:

1. will provide free hearing screenings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m on the corner of James and Third streets, next to the courthouse. The 20-minute test will take place inside of the Lion's Foundation hearing screening bus, and there is no advance registration required.

This is a free service, open to ages 10 and up. Minors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent. 

2. Attend an event called , scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. at  in St. Charles, and introduce yourself to some of the artists who create fine hand-crafted items for sale in the store. This is an adults-only event, and refreshments, raffles, prizes and special, one-night-only discounts will be available.

Sensible Threadz owner Carol Frey wants to promote support structure between small-business owners and local artists with the event. She is involved with community-outreach programs and promoting charity through her store. 

3Kane County Board Chairman  is scheduled to announce her candidacy for Illinois state Senate District 33 with a press conference starting at 11 a.m. on the River Walk at North First Street in West Dundee.

McConnaughay was first elected to represent Kane County in 1992 and has worked on more than a dozen committees. According to her website, she was elected as board chairman in 2004 with more than 60 percent of the vote. 

4. The  sponsored by the Batavia Park District, will continue at 7:30 p.m. with a live performance by the band BBI. Concerts are held on Wednesday's throughout the summer at the Batavia Riverwalk on Houston Street and North Island Avenue in Batavia. 

5. Winners of Patch's can visit Caribou Coffee on Third Street from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., where Patch writer  will be handing out prizes. If you are unable to collect a prize today, please e-mail her at trobairitz@earthlink.net.
