GEA, TaxFACTS Not Endorsing in School Board or Any Other April 9 Races

Two organizations with a high profile on school-related issues—Geneva Education Association teachers union and the Geneva TaxFACTS citizens group—say they aren't endorsing any candidates in the April 9 election.

If you were looking forward to finding out which candidates the Geneva Education Association and the Geneva TaxFACTS citizens group will be supporting on April 9, well, to borrow a line from The Princess Bride, "get used to disappointment."

Neither group will be making endorsements in the Geneva School Board race, or any other races, for that matter.

"The GEA is not endorsing any candidates, nor are we recommending any to our membership," Geneva President Carol Young said via e-mail Monday.

Mayoral candidate and Geneva TaxFACTS co-founder Bob McQuillan offered a similar response:

"You are aware that GenevaTaxFACTS is a non-partisan group and does not endorse any candidate in any race, ever," he said, also via email. "As a candidate for mayor, I have not endorsed any other candidate in any race."

Sandra Ellis, another TaxFACTS member, also said the group would not be endorsing and declined to say who she might be supporting as an individual.

"GTF is a group of concerned taxpayers and our mission is not to poll them for endorsements but to provide factual information upon which they can make their decisions," she said. "The videos of the School Board candidates from the forum very clearly give enough information upon which a voter can make a decision as well as the 1st Ward alderman and mayor. Also, the bios provided to the news media from candidates tell a lot."

James Cullen, another TaxFACTS member, said in a comment to a Geneva Pathc article  that "the taxpayers’ candidates appear to be Fred Dresser, Dan Garrett, Mark Grosso and David Lamb."

Eight candidates are vying for four seats on the School Board in the April 9 election. The candidates' questionnaires/bios can be found by clicking the following links:
