Delnor Hospital Ranked 25th Best in Illinois by U.S. News

Cadence Health's Delnor Hospital is ranked among the top hospitals in Illinois.

Cadence Health’s Delnor Hospital is ranked 25th-best in the state of Illinois and 22nd in the Chicago metropolitan area, according to U.S. News & World Report.

There are 222 hospitals in Illinois, according the report. The complete rankings are available at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals.

U.S. News said Delnor earned especially high marks — "nearly at the level of nationally ranked U.S. News Best Hospitals" — in four categories: GeriatricsNephrologyNeurology & Neurosurgery and Orthopedics.

In the same report, Delnor's sister hospital under the Cadence brand, Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, finished eighth in the state of Illinois and earned national recognition for its orthopaedic program, which finished 22nd in the country.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals ranking, now in its 24th year, recognizes hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

Tops in the state of Illinois was Northwestern Memorial Hospital, with 12 nationally-ranked specialties.

“To have both Cadence Health hospitals ranked among the best in the region and the state underscores the commitment by the hospitals’ physicians, nurses, and staff to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients in Chicago’s western suburbs,” said Mike Vivoda, president and chief executive officer, Cadence Health. “The rankings result from a rigorous analysis of patient outcomes and care processes and we are proud that both CDH and Delnor have achieved this honor.”

U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 16 adult specialties. In most specialties, it ranks the nation’s top 50 hospitals. For CDH, its orthopaedic program was ranked 22nd in the country. Additionally, U.S. News recognizes other high-performing hospitals by region that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers.

“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just 3 percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty.”

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.

Delnor Hospital has 159 beds and had 7,172 admissions in the latest year for which data are available. It performed 1,633 annual inpatient and 5,921 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 31,186 visits, according to a Cadence Health press release.
