Reply"It is believed that the markings indicate the existence of the Vice Lords street gang in the area."
Erroneous assumption, yet worth a chuckle none the less.

"Their work is mostly religious in nature"??
Nothing could be further from the truth. The only reason the Higgs-Boson has been called the "God Particle" is because of marketing. It has absolutely nothing to do with God or any religious sect. Because the Higgs-Boson is an all-important peice of a much larger puzzle that is "How things in the universe gain mass" (among others), marketers called it the "God Particle" because they had hoped it would put a much larger audience in touch with the work the scientists were doing.
Ignorance is much too prevalent these days.

On the Blog Post Zac Ploppert: The Issues as I See Them

ReplyAs I have said before, I am not one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to the "ins and outs" of our fair city. This is something that I mean to rectify in the very near future. However, this being said, I believe this puts me in a unique position to have a truly objective viewpoint with regards to what a candidate for any office is offering as their position on the "issues".
Now, in my opinion the points made by Mr. Ploppert are all (as far as I can tell) fairly common sense. I can honestly say that while some of what he said is rather vague and in a general sense, I agree with his philosophy on many if not all of the points made in his post.
Thank you for responding to Jeff's post and for offering your views.

ReplyYes they are. Maybe Google will be nice and share if it gets big enough. It certainly has that potential the way things are going.

ReplyWhile I might not get the joke in the fourth paragraph (unless you and I count paragraphs differently) I must agree with Jeff on this one. I might have never paid enough attention to local politics, but I must admit the recent near-strike of Geneva teachers has perked up my ears a bit more. My point is that while I have seen a few Ploppert signs and read his couple Patch posts, I still have no idea what he stands for. Like Jeff stated, aside from being "Independent" what does he really stand for? How passionate is he about some of the local laws or programs? Anyone can sit in on every council meeting, but is he getting anything out of it? If so, what?
Zac.. why, besides being Independent, should we vote for you?

ReplyYea.. it was the mugshot that first enticed me to read this story. After reading the details it does seem that he "needs help". It often amazes me the lengths some people will go for just a few bucks.

ReplyThis is a very odd and shocking report. Being a dog owner and self-proclaimed "dog person" it is hard to imagine something like this happening, especially from a dog owned by the victim. There has got to be much more to this story.

Jen, I agree. I too feel as you do and would also welcome any conversation with those involved and myself should that come to pass. While I do respect the teachers for the job they do in this community and for my 3 children I still find myself struggling to accept the teachers proposals as "fair" when the rest of us do struggle to make ends meet. Sure, it is not their fault that I and others struggle financially. Nor is it their responsibility to make my life easier. However, I do fully expect each on of them to be able to look people/parents in the eyes when they tout their pay increases of 2 & 3% while we are lucky to see .03% or 0.5% annually (if that). Why should they have to? Because each of us is paying their increase, that's why.
You're also correct in that the price paid in all of this cannot just be measured in "dollars and cents". The community has been polarized through all of this much like I wrote about in my recent blog post. We must try to remember who we are and that we are all still neighbors. Regardless, this is an issue that I believe will be a topic of conversation for quite some time.

Twinkies will be back. Someone is bound to purchase the company, rights, whatever. They will not be gone long.
