I think you will find that the policies that Miss Tomchek references were indeed modified by the Board of Education as she requested. As Chair of the Board's Policy Committee, I had the pleasure of meeting with Miss Tomchek and her classmate, and members of the administration, and we sought to ensure her concerns were addressed. The other two members of our Policy committee worked very hard to ensure the language was consistent with both state law and comparable policies from neighboring districts. You will find these on the Geneva 304 website as policies 1162, 3362, 4362, 5517 (Anti-Harassment) and 2260 (Non-Discrimination and Access to Equal Educational Opportunity).

"What self-respecting famous folk have ever, above a despairing whisper, admitted they were an East Side Genevan? Of course, the West Side proudly claims this nationally revered and future Pulitzer Prize winning columnist as their own!"
Actually, Forrest Crissey, a (real) journalist for the Saturday Evening Post, and an author of national renown, once proudly called the East side home.
Best of luck on that Pulitzer.
