ReplyJust sell it ALL off -- we don't need the land or the buildings, and if there ever is any growth it won't exceed the projections from the padded referendum! Real estate is not an investment the district needs to protect or maintain. Certainly no need to demolish anything -- sell it as is! If the History Center wants to buy it, let them!

On the article POLL, VIDEO UPDATE: Tax Group Asks School Board for Zero Levy Increase

ReplyI would also urge the board to consider 0%. It is seriously time to consider some tough budget cuts. If people were concerned about what freezing teacher salaries would ultimately do to our desirability as a community, then they should realize that a huge tax burden is even more prohibitive to prospective home buyers! Please BOE, don't make it worse in this economy. Cut the budget and hold off on the levy.

ReplyPlease don't allow high school kids to drink in your home. My child does not have my permission, and you are not authorized to give him permission. It's illegal and it's harmful to him. I will not allow underage drinking in my home for those very reasons. If you don't care about my kid, then beware for yourself, because if something terrible happens to a kid drinking in your home, you are liable, regardless of what happened to the man mentioned in this article. He is just lucky that some kid didn't decide to get in a car and kill himself or someone else. Or over-imbibe enough to die from alcohol poisoning.

ReplyPlease, email the board if you feel that 0% is what is right for our community! I was at that meeting, and the BOE is receiving many emails regarding the difficult circumstances facing so many in our community. I sincerely think they are listening. So, email them with your thoughts, and go to the next meeting! Just remember, if you call for belt tightening you might not be happy where it has to occur and need to appreciate some of the difficult decisions the board will have to make.

I agree LLKCV, you cannot expect the BOE to read minds -- if you have thoughts and feelings regarding the 1.5% levy, please email them!

Arthur, the only cost estimate I could see in the plan was $20,000,000.00. It appears that it is for the utilities, storm water management, etc. I believe it also mentioned a grant from Kane County, no amount mentioned. I was not at the meeting, but I would just assume we are going to pay for at least some of it one way or another.

ReplyBelieve me, this was a lesser of two evils on both sides of this election it seems. This is why we need more options than just republicans and democrats. If the media would fill the roll they were meant to in our society, there would be more than two candidates debating, getting news time, etc. Why didn't we see the libertarian or green party candidates anywhere during the debates? Does the public even know they exist? The fact that there were so many people undecided up until the last month is troubling!

Show up at a board meeting once in a while Bob Johnson. At the last one there were a lot more than 10 people, and a lot more than that who emailed the BOE to voice their concerns. You really don't know what you are talking about.

I fully agree Bob, I am surprised that a city along a river doesn't already have a plan such as this in place.
