Can You Believe This Weather?

Recording-setting temperatures have made it seem more like the beginnings of summer than spring.

How's this for March weather? Start with a snowstorm and then launch into summer. The record-setting temperatures that you've hopefully been outside enjoying this week are expected to continue today. The National Weather Service is reporting a high near 80 for Geneva.  Watch out for some potential showers this afternoon, or maybe even a thunderstorm possible after 4 p.m. The chance for rain is 50 percent, but will rise to 80 percent tonight.  Friday will be a bit milder than the rest of this lovely week. The high will be 69 and the possibility of rain will linger through Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service. Sunny and 78 on Wednesday!

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures in the 70s Wednesday and Thursday.

You might soon need to bust out the short-sleeve shirts. The National Weather Service forecast for Geneva, IL (41.88°N 88.32°W) predicts a ridiculously nice warming trend, with temperatures climbing into the 70s on Wednesday and Thursday. Predicted for this week: Today: Sunny, with a high near 67. West northwest wind around 5 mph.  Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming southeast.  Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 78. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to between 15 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. South southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as …

Baby, It’s Cold Outside (Now, But January Was Sixth Warmest Ever)

Unseasonably warm weather continues into February as the remaining days of winter melt away.

The weatherman is calling for snow and cold this weekend. So what? After all, it is February. The forecast is making news because little snow has fallen this winter—Illinois’ sixth warmest on record. State climatologist Jim Angel of the Illinois State Water Survey says the average temperature in January for the state was 31.4 degrees. That's about 7 degrees above normal, making January the 13th warmest on record. The average temperature for December and January was 33.4 degrees. That makes it the sixth warmest December-January period since 1895. The warm weather, of course, has meant less snow. Chicago snowfall for December and January totaled just 13.9 inches, half of the 27.3 inches that fell in December and January a year ago. However, …
