2 Geneva Neighborhoods Likely to Change Grade Schools

Students from two parts of town—downtown Geneva south of State Street and an East Side area south of Fabyan Parkway—might attend Western Avenue School rather than Williamsburg next year. Fabyan Elementary and Mill Creek boundaries will be untouched.

Students from two parts of town likely will attend Western Avenue School next year rather than Williamsburg Elementary, according to a memo published in the Fabyan Facts newsletter by Geneva School District 304 Superintendent Dr. Kent Mutchler. Fabyan Elementary School and Mill Creek Elementary School won't have to change their boundaries, a School District task force has concluded. The decisions aren't final, but the task force recommendations are expected to be presented at the Board of Education meeting on April 8. "We will not be recommending any adjustments in attendance boundaries between Mill Creek Elementary School and Fabyan Elementary School at this time," Mutchler said in the memo. "(But) we are continuing to explore possible …

Constantly moving school boundaries is ridiculous. There is no overcrowding at any of the schools. The families have settled into the schools that they currently attend. And then you're going to subject the district to the same aggravation in a few years? Stupid.   more ›

School-Boundary Forum at Fabyan Raises More Questions

In a friendly meeting over grade-school boundary changes, parents' biggest question is, "Why now?"

School-boundary forums can be outrageous and emotional affairs, where parents rail against the notion of change and voices are raised in protest. If Wednesday night's first forum at Fabyan Elementary School is any measure, however, the elementary-school boundary proposals being forged by Geneva School District 304 could go quite gently into that good night. "We really want to do what makes sense in this process, because it’s not a major overhaul, it’s an adjustment," Geneva School Superintendent Kent Mutchler told a group of about 20 parents attending the meeting. The forum was intended to present as much information as possible about enrollment numbers and boundary options, and to gather parents' suggestions to help school officials …

Does anyone know how to get a current 304 district boundary map? The one I can find on their website (https://www.geneva304.org/district_information/PDF/Boundary%20Map.pdf ) doesn't show a lot of streets/houses in the north-west mill creek subdivision that have been built in the past 5 years. Parts of the area are in the section '29', but those kids go to Mill Creek, so I'm assuming they updated …   more ›

First Forum on Geneva Grade-School Boundaries Is Wednesday at Fabyan Elementary

About 30 to 70 students could move from Mill Creek Elementary to Fabyan Elementary.

The first of four forums on Geneva elementary-school boundary changes will take place Wednesday, Feb. 6, at one of the schools where students would move into. The forum begins at 7 p.m. at Fabyan Elementary School, which could add 30 to 70 students who otherwise might have attended Mill Creek Elementary. The proposed boundary changes would move Area 8A in the attached map into the Fabyan Elementary footprint. The Geneva District 304 Board of Education announced the forum schedule at its Jan. 28 meeting. Elementary school boundaries are being adjusted to better balance the enrollment numbers at four of the six Geneva grade schools. The boundary changes were proposed by a task force comprised of Geneva School District 304 Superintendent Kent…
