Geneva police reports: Criminal damage to property reports include a damaged urn, blown-up mailbox and an uncouth remark spray painted on a high school wall.
The criminal damage to property in this week's Geneva police blotter involves an urn, a mailbox and an exterior wall of Geneva High School. Here's the trifecta: Criminal Damage to Property Over $500—Someone spray painted an anti-Geneva epithet on the exterior wall of the gymnasium just north of the doors, Geneva police reports said. School District 304 staff told police the paint probably will not come off entirely but they should be able to wash enough off to make it illegible, the report said. The wall might need resurfacing or replacement, which is why the damage was categorized as "more than $500." Criminal Damage to Property Under $300—Someone damaged a mailbox of a home in the 800 block of Third Avenue sometime around 5:15 a.m. Sept…

The ticket booth and signs outside Burgess Field get marked up prior to the first home game. Other criminal damage to property reports in Geneva include more graffiti, a damaged fence and a scratched car hood.
Vandals got to Geneva's home field just before the first football game of the season. That's one of four criminal damage reports collected from the Geneva police blotter in last week's roundup. Criminal Damage to State-Supported Land—Someone spray painted graffiti on the northern ticket booth at Burgess Field as well as two metal signs affixed to the chainlink fence sometime between 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and 6 a.m. Aug. 21, reports said. The graffiti on the ticket booth read “Kill People” and “(Various Cuss Words) School” and “unspecified designs” were painted on the metal signs, according to reports. The cost of repairing the property damage was unknown at the time of the report. Criminal Damage to Property—Someone spray painted “words, …

Sometimes the collection of Geneva Police Department reports is a little eclectic. Here are three from August that fit that description. Speeding/Underage Drinking—Geneva police arrested Ernest Pent, 21, of Aurora for speeding in the 1000 block of South Randall Road and cited his passenger, Kathryn Schade, 19, of Geneva for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor at around 3:53 a.m. Aug. 17, reports said. Schade also was issued a warning notice for not wearing a safety belt. Pent was ticketed for driving 61 mph in a 45 mph zone. Vehicle Burglary—Someone took a blue audiopipe subwoofer speaker in a gray carpeted enclosure from a Jeep Cherokee parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1600 block of Fairway Circle sometime between 2 p.m…

It's a potpourri of crime in the Geneva police blotter.
Generally, I try to group similar crimes together when reporting from the Geneva police blotter, but this really is a random ground. A little of this, a little of that—like a tapas restaurant of petty crime. Here are three items collected from the Geneva police reports. Vandalism—Someone threw about six eggs at a residence in the 400 block of Prairieview Drive sometime between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Feb, 11, Geneva police reports said. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor—Geneva police cited Devin Fosco, 20, of Hanover Park for illingal consumption of alcohol by a minor around 1):18 p.m. Feb. 6 in the 300 block of West State St., reports said. He has a court date of 9 a.m. March 6 at Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road. Theft Under $300—…

With the Academy Award nominations out this week, it's hard not to think about movies, and the classic Rear Window came to mind in a quick review of police reports collected Monday. Two vehicle rear windows were broken in separate incidents. Neither involved Jimmy Stewart or Grace Kelly. There was a hatchback, but no Hitchcock. Criminal Damage to Property—Someone broke the hatchback window of a Ford Explorer in the Geneva Commons parking lot near Dick’s Sporting Goods, 618 Commons Drive, sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 6:14 p.m. Jan. 14, reports said. Damage to the window and body damage to the Explorer was estimated at $500. Criminal Damage to Property Over $300—Someone broke the rear window of a Ford Escape in the parking lot of 1316 …

Another cut cord on the Christmas lights.
We've had our share of holiday petty meanness this year. And here's hoping, as the new year approaches, that it's the last we find in Geneva police reports this season. In the latest Bad Santa event, someone cut a strand of white outdoor Christmas lights in the front yard of a residence in the 2600 block of Cedar Avenue sometime prior to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16, reports said. The value of the lights was estimated at $8.99. Unless we missed one somewhere, this is the third cord-cutting reported to Geneva police this season. The first was sometime between Nov. 24 and 25, when someone cut the cords of holiday lights at a home in the 1400 block of Fargo Boulevard. Police later discovered that tires in the neighborhood had been slashed on the same …

Miscellaneous mischief: Student hopes Apple can help catch a thief.
A car burglary and theft from a high school locker were about it for the miscellaneous mischief collected last week from Geneva police reports. But both are a little interesting, one because of the method a student wants to use "to catch a thief," the other because of what was inside the cigarette case. Theft Under $500—A Geneva High School student reported to police that someone took an iPod Touch from his gym locker at Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave., sometime prior to 2 p.m. Nov. 17, reports said. The student asked to file a formal report so that Apple could attempt to locate the device via GPS. Police also entered the iPod description into the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS). Burglary—Someone took a cigarette case …

A stolen bike, a yard wrecked and underage drinking among the crimes and misdemeanors in Geneva collected in last week's police reports. Theft Over $500—Someone took a bicycle from the bike rack at the Sunset Community Center, 710 Western Ave., sometime between 6:15 p.m. Nov. 8 and 7 p.m. Nov. 11, reports said. The owner said she used a gray and black combination cable lock to secure the bicycle to the rack and got a ride home because it was raining. The Trek mountain bike is valued at $800. Criminal Damage to Property Over $300—Someone drove a sports utility vehicle or van into a yard in the 0-100 block of Burgess Road sometime around 11 p.m. Nov. 19, reports said. An earlier version of this story noted the $100 fine for underage drinking, which is a higher fine than I've seen in other cases. Based on recent City Council discussions about fines and underage drinking, it was my understanding that officers had some discretion in setting the fine. But Geneva Cmdr. Eric Passerelli is helping me set the record straight. "The fine is actually set by city ordinance, after adoption by the City Council, not the Police Department," he said. "We do not have discretion to charge more or less than the code states. There is a range of fines in the City Code—from $25 to $100—(but) it is strictly dependent on the offense committed." Here are some minor crimes and misdemeanors collected earlier this week from Geneva …
