Below-zero wind chills are expected Monday night as a cold front rushes our way.
The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook that warns of below-zero wind chills and aweful visibility. And you can add that warning to the already existing Flood Watch that's lingering for the Fox River. The Hazardous Weather Outook starts Monday afternoon, as a strong cold front rushes east across the area. "Sporadic wind gusts to near 40 mph are likely. In addition, isolated snow showers are possible, which together with the wind may result in brief periods of greatly reduced visibility," the NWS-C says. "The quickly-falling temperatures may lead ot freezing of wet surfaces across the area." It wasn't exactly a blizzard, but Tuesday's snowstorm shut down events and plans all over Kane County. Various news outlets reported a snowfall of 4.5 inches for the area. The storm climaxed in the afternoon, forcing the cancellation of many after-school activities and the early closure of public libraries in Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles. The storm also forced 500 flight cancellations at Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports, where flights that were not canceled were delayed by as much as an hour. The snow continues today with a one-inch accumulation possible, according to the National Weather Service.
