Curious Case of a Damaged Double Stroller in Geneva, Plus Batavia Riverwalk Damage

Here's a roundup of criminal damage in Geneva and Batavia this past week.

The criminal damage in Geneva and Batavia this past week includes an unusual case of someone cutting up a stroller tire, graffiti, $2,000 damage to a car and someone cutting the wires of lights on Batavia's Riverwalk.  Criminal Damage to Property Under $300—Someone damaged the right front tire of a double jogging stroller sitting in the front porch of a residence in the 400 block of Ford Street sometime between 7 a.m. April 22 and 1:30 p.m. April 23, reports said. The seal on the tire had been broken and part of the tire had been removed from the rim, reports said. The victim was not sure whether she could have the wheel repaired or replaced but estimated the cost of the stroller at $100. Vandalism—Someone painted graffiti on the bridge …

Geneva police report a small amount of criminal damage so far this spring.

There haven't been a lot of criminal damage reports so far this spring—maybe because the weather's been so lousy. If past years are any measure, we can expect these reports to increase as the weather gets nicer and go into a higher gear once school gets out. Criminal Damage to Property—Someone damaged three tires on two vehicles between 10 p.m. April 20 and 7 a.m. April 21 in the 400 block of Fourth Street, reports said. Damage was estimated at about $210. The front driver’s side tire was damaged on a Buick Rendezvous and two driver’s side tires were damaged on a Ford Taurus. The vehicles were parked unattended in the driveway. Vandalism—Someone wrote graffiti in black, permanent marker on playground equipment at Elm Park, 419 Elm Ave., …

Teens Throw Red Liquid Out of Speeding Car

Batavia blotter includes property damage to churches and one unusual case in which the force of hurled liquid from a speeding car breaks a driver's-side mirror.

It sounds like a harmless prank, but apparently, throwing liquid out a speeding car can cause more than a little bit of damage—and could cause a much-more serious accident. A group of teenagers in a silver, four-door vehicle threw a cup of red liquid out the window and broke the driver’s-side mirror of another vehicle at Hart Road and Wind Energy Pass in Batavia, according to a report filed at 6:05 p.m. April 11, Batavia police reports said. The estimated cost to replace the mirror is $150, and the report did not indicate any persons were hurt. Someone Damages Window at Former Mill Race Inn

The Mill Race Inn, which has been on the market for more than two years now, took another, tiny blow around 11:35 p.m. March 29, when Geneva police reported to the scene of the former restaurant. A caller told Tri-Com dispatch that he or she heard the sound of glass breaking in the area. When police arrived, they located a cracked window just to the north of the east entranceway. Damage was estimated at $500. The building has seen small abuses during the past two years, most notably reported in September 2011, when it was discovered that someone broke into the building and took five large food coolers. Criminal damage to property reports collected from the Geneva police blotter this week show three incidents in Geneva.

Windows were smashed in three vehicles, including one at a Geneva industrial plant, according to reports collected from the Geneva Police Department. Criminal Damage to Property Over $300—Someone damaged the driver-side window, rear driver-side window and window trim of a Toyota Camry parked in the lot of Power Packaging, 2089 Pilsbury Drive, sometime between 10:30 p.m. Jan 17 and 7 a.m. Jan. 18, Geneva police reports said. The car was parked at the southwest side of the parking lot. Damage was estimated at more than $300. Geneva Man Arrested Twice, for Damaging Household Items, Then a Ceramic Duck

Geneva police arrested Gary Michaelis, 65, of Geneva after a pair of incidents in which he destroyed articles at a Pepper Valley residence, including a ceramic duck. Police first arrested Michaelis on charges of disorderly conduct at around 2:04 a.m. Jan. 16 at the residence in the 2100 block of Pepper Valley Drive. According to the complaint, Michaelis intentionally threw a glass candle toward a television belonging to the victim and took a glass-framed picture from a bathroom wall and threw it into a bathtub along with several personal care items, causing the victim “to become alarmed and disturbed.” Geneva police arrested him again on charges of criminal damage to property after an incident sometime between 10:30 p.m. Jan. 17 and 7:16 a…

Criminal Damage to Property Under $300—Someone broke a window on the west side of a residence in the 0-100 block of Briar Lane sometime between Dec. 1 and around 2:30 p.m. Dec. 11, reports said. The 24-by-18-inch window was valued at $50. Someone Paints 'GD' on 'Welcome to Geneva Sign

Criminal Damage to Property: More graffiti in Geneva, this time on the city's welcome sign.

Someone spray painted the Welcome to Geneva sign on the southwest corner of Anderson Boulevard and State Street, the back of a stop sign at the southwest corner of Gray and Anderson Boulevard and the back of a stop sign at the northwest corner of McKinley Avenue and Union Street sometime between noon and 4:19 p.m.  Dec. 11, Geneva police reports said. One stop sign had “GD” painted on the back, the other had a pitchfork painted on the back. The Welcome to Geneva sign had painting on both front and back. The back had a star, s symbol similar to the Packman ghost, a pyramid and what appeared to be GSG; the front was painted with a star and another symbol. Police Make Arrests for Public Intoxication, Disturbing the Peace

Bad behavior led to citations for two men and an arrest of another in unrelated incidents collected this week from Geneva Police Department reports. Criminal Damage to Property Arrest—Geneva police arrested Scott Hosack, 38, of Elgin on charges of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct after an incident at around 9:10 am. Nov. 23 in the 2000 block of Williamsburg Avenue, reports said. According to the complaint in the 16th Circuit Court, Hosack threw a glass vase on the floor in a residence “in such an unreasonable manner as to alarm and disturb (the victim) and provoke a breach of the peace.” The damage was estimated at less than $300.
