Paul Ruby Foundation Funds Two Proposals for Parkinson's Research

The Paul Ruby Foundation was able to fund two proposals this year at Northwestern University's Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center.

The foundation raised $100,000 from Concert for a Cure and Sub 5 Century Challenge this year, as well as from Boy Scout Troop 37's ride to Niagara Falls. The foundation was provided with several grant proposals, and the foundation voted to fund $20,000 for Dr. Jerilyn Logemann’s research on the development and validation of a screening process for swallowing disorders in Parkinson’s patients. The foundation also funded $80,000 for Dr. Rajeshar Awatramani’s research on assessing the function of a dopamine neuron subtype that is vulnerable in Parkinson’s disease. Members of the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board traveled to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they heard grant proposals and receiving updates on the research that was …

Paul Ruby Foundation Hits $500,000 Donated to Parkinson's Research

The 2012 Concert for a Cure adds another $100,000 to the total the local foundation has raised for Parkinson's research.

This year’s Concert for a Cure, held on Aug. 28 at Tanna Farms, was hugely successful and enabled the Paul Ruby Foundation to raise this year’s goal of $100,000 for Parkinson’s research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center. Eleven bands provided entertainment for the more than 1,200 people who attended this year’s concert. More than 200 volunteers helped make the concert happen, providing invaluable help and ensuring everything ran smoothly the day of the concert. The Paul Ruby Foundation has now raised more than $500,000 for Parkinson’s research, and the board of the foundation will go to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Oct. 24 to hear presentations on research projects that need funding…

Two stages, hours of live music, kids' fun—all are coming Saturday. We can only hope that a cure for Parkinson's Disease is coming soon, as well.

Paul Ruby never would have imagined that a desire to find a cure for Parkinson’s would have resulted in one of the biggest music festivals in the Fox Valley. Concert for a Cure, in its sixth year, has become a local favorite, attracting guests from all over the area and some of the best musicians locally, and this year, as well as nationally. This year, the foundation welcomes Miles Nielsen and The Rusted Heart Band. Nielsen, an Illinois native, is the son of Cheap Trick founder Rick Nielsen. RG, when you pass away and instantly get to meet Satan, maybe you'll think back and remember writing that callous, psychotic rant I see posted above. You write like you're the devil himself. Please take your lame-ass to the airport and get on a plane and go to Iran, where they will welcome you with open arms and you'll fit in perfectly.   more ›

Former Chicago Bears Team up with the Paul Ruby Foundation to Tackle Parkinson’s Disease

Players involved with the project include John Janata, Bob Wetoska, Chuck Brown, Glen Kozlowski, Keith Van Horne, Shaun Gayle, Tom Hicks, Tom Waddle, Bob Asher, Ed O’Bradovich, Tom Thayer and Bob Thomas.

Several former Bears, including players from the NFL 1963 World Championship team and the 1985 Super Bowl championship team, have offered to get involved with a public service announcement being developed to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and the efforts of the Paul Ruby Foundation. Paul Ruby, general manager of the Herrington Inn & Spa in Geneva, and Ed McCaskey of the Chicago Bears family cultivated a friendship after both were diagnosed with the degenerative neurological disease. When Paul reached out to McCaskey to enlist the help of the Bears recently, a request letter was drafted and mailed to former Bears players living in the Chicago area. Within the first few days following the mailing, 12 players agreed to be filmed.  “I …

Ruby Foundation Excited About Today's (Saturday) Concert for a Cure

Concert for a Cure has a terrific music lineup, a second stage and more family fun for its fifth anniversary event.

Paul Ruby could not have envisioned the phenomenal success of the foundation he began in 2007. This grassroots foundation has developed and grown to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and to raise money for research of the disease. Beginning with a golf outing and concert in August 2007, this event has grown to become the community tradition of Concert for a Cure. In its first four years, the concert has raised $300,000 for Parkinson’s research. The past four years have shown that grass has not grown under this rolling stone, and the fifth year will be no exception. Concert for a Cure is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Aug. 27. This popular event not only provides a fun, family oriented day full of great music, but also supports research …
