Wild Monk Gastropub Apparently Falls Victim to Economy
Doors closed and locked, no one answers the phone, and the St. Charles location has been removed from the website.
Wild Monk Gastropub, 51 S. 1st St., has closed its doors about a year after it opened, another apparent victim of an economy slowly recovering from the Great Recession. It is unclear when the establishment closed, but a fan of the downtown pub contacted Patch late last week asking about the status of the business. Visited twice this week during its normal business hours, the doors were locked. Someone had left a business card lodged between the doors. There was no sign offering an explanation. Inside, barstools could be seen clearly where they had been stacked upside down on tables or countertops.
