Police in West Chicago are investigating Monday night shooting in 300 block of Barber Street.
West Chicago police are investigating a Monday-night shooting whose victim apparently was targeted. The West Chicago Police Department said the shooting occurred about 9:25 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, in the 300 block of Barber Street. Police said a victim, identified only as a male, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. “The victim appears to have been targeted, and no additional threat to public safety is believed to exist at this time,” the department said in a release on Tuesday. “However, residents are always encouraged to report any suspicious activity.” Police said more information will be provided as it becomes available.
Downtown residential areas appear to be targeted overnight, police say.
West Chicago police say that within the past week they have seen an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries, primarily overnight in the downtown residential areas between Washington Street and National Street, as well as Arbor Avenue and Route 59. Probably good to be on the alert in Geneva, too. The common factor in these cases was that the vehicles were left unlocked, police said in a release issued Monday. The West Chicago Police Department is advising the public to follow these safety tips to help prevent falling victim to car burglary:
The remains were discovered on Sunday, Sept. 23, according to police.
At about 4:47 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, officers from the West Chicago Police Department were notified by two individuals who were scavenging in the area of the 100 block of W. Washington Street in West Chicago that they found what appeared to be human remains. The individuals took officers back to the location where additional bones were found. The DuPage County Coroners Office confirmed that the skull and bones were human in nature and classified them as “historical." During the course of the investigation it was learned that the bones were accidentally excavated from an Aurora-area cemetery and inadvertently deposited in West Chicago. The DuPage County Coroners Office in cooperation with the West Chicago Police Department are …

The concern is for the safety of small pets that might get eaten.
Coyote sightings in West Chicago have caused concern among some residents, prompting the city to provide an information source intended to educate the public. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is a good place to start. Information contained on their website, www.dnr.state.il.us, may help allay panic should one see a coyote in their neighborhood. The coyote, resembling a small German shepherd dog, carries its tail below the level of its back, rather than curved upward. Its upper body is typically light gray to dull yellow, but can vary from mostly black to nearly all gray or white. A more specific description may be found on the IDNR website. According to the IDNR, coyotes are common throughout Illinois, where they are …

The town loves the fireworks every year. To have them cancelled upset many residents. And while I can understand the rationale behind the cancellation, it was still ridiculous.   more ›
