Accident Reports: Multi-Car Crashes, Tire Blowout, Teen Ticketed for Having Too Many Youths in the Car

Police Reports: The first of two accident roundups includes a variety of interesting collisions in Geneva.

Sometimes the accident reports pile up faster than a multi-vehicle accident. In a two-part series, Geneva Patch catches up with the events collected in July from the Geneva police blotter. Two interesting items in the bunch include the first ticket I've seen to a teen driver who had more than one person under 18 in the car and a single-car accident in which a blown tire is blamed. Truck Hits Awning—A GMC truck driven by Michael Dixon, 42, of Geneva hit the awning of Duke & Lee’s, 609 Batavia Ave., around 4:32 p.m. June 26, reports said. Between $501 and $1,500 damage ws done. Lane Change on Randall Road Forces Driver Into a Spinout

Traffic reports: SUV driver keeps on going after lane change forces another car to spin out and hit a guardrail.

Have you ever been in one of those driving situations where the vehicle in the left lane starts to merge right into you? Sometimes there's not enough time to honk your horn to let him/her know you're there, so all you can do is take evasive action and hope to avoid a collision. That sounds a little bit like what happened in the first incident in this roundup of Geneva accidents—only with the added scare of a spinout due to the slippery roads and an SUV driver that kept on going, even after the car he/she allegedly forced off the road hit a guardrail. Here's the roundup: Accident on Randall Road near Keslinger Road—The front of a Nissan Altima driven by an Elgin man was forced off the road, went into spin and hit a guardrail in the 300 …

Anyone notice a pattern here? Most of these accidents were caused by someone running into the vehicle ahead of them. This is caused by "tailgating," and NO, I am not referring to bar-b-que parties at football games. I see this every day, usually in my rear view mirror. It's someone "in a hurry" driving ten feet from my rear bumper at 50 mph, while I'm thinking, "If I have to stop, CAN YOU?" Folks…   more ›

Accident Reports: Hit and Run After Weird Lane Change at Fabyan and Kirk

A few cases of strange driving accompany the usual no-fault fender-benders in this week's police blotter.

Jeff Ward and Beth Bales sometimes write about crazy drivers in the area. There is some proof of that from the police reports. The first of two accident roundups from the Geneva police blotter this week is highlighted by the first item below—a hit and run in which the driver of one vehicle reportedly cut around a car making the standed left turn in the left-turn lane. Hit and Run on Fabyan Parkway near Kirk Road—A Dodge Ram driven by an unknown driver struck the front of a Ford Taurus driven by a West Chicago man around 7 a.m. Sept. 19 in the 1500 block of Fabyan Parkway about 15 feet east of Kirk Road, reports said. The driver of the Taurus told police he was westbound on Fabyan Parkway in the turn lane preparing for a left when the Dodge…

Traffic Reports: Be Careful When Parking in Geneva Commons

Here's a collection of accident reports collected this week at the Geneva Police Department.

Among the things you come to realize pretty quickly when collecting Geneva police traffic-accident reports are some of the most dangerous intersections in the city. But another thing you realize is that the most common place for a parking lot fender bender is the Geneva Commons. That's not surprising in that it probably is the biggest commercial parking lot in the city. But it's a good reminder, too, to be especially careful when you park there. Accident in Geneva Commons—The rear of a Ford Escape driven by Rammy Radvanovsky, 41, of Geneva collided with the front of a Honda Civic driven by Pheophanh Kapkeo, 26, of Elgin around 10 a.m. July 31 in the Geneva Commons parking lot. More than $1,500 damage was done to any one vehicle. Accident …
