UPDATES: FOX RIVER OVERFLOWING; EVACUATIONS Encouraged, More on Roadways Flooding; 6-8 Inches Collecting in Some Areas

The Fox River is overflowing its banks, flooding area basements and streets near the basin. The sewer system is backed up, Tri-Com says.

Reports of the Fox River flowing over banks and retention walls, flooded basements and one fire, quickly put out, are deluging Tri-Com dispatch Thursday morning.   8 p.m. 6:30 p.m. Assuming no additional rainfall: 3:14 p.m Tri-Com reports vehicle collision at Fabyan and Mill Creek. Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Place Until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday

The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued a severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for Kane County until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. The line of severe storms was located 7 miles south of Clinton and is heading east at 50 mph. Quarter-size hail and 60 mph winds are expected, along with damage to vehices and crops, roofs, siding and trees. Keep Patch and your neighbors informed. Flash Flood Warning, Thunderstorms Hit Tri-Cities Sunday Night

Up to 2.6 inches of rainfall were recorded on Sunday in areas of Kane County. Batavia and Geneva were mentioned specifically in the National Weather Service alert.

The National Weather Service Chicago issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Kane County that mentions Geneva and Batavia specifically as areas in the most danger. According to the NWS-Chicago alert, the warning was aimed at central Cook County, DuPage County, northeastern Kendall County and southeastern Kane until 2 a.m. Monday. A dense fog advisory is also in effect until 8 a.m. Monday. Trained weather spotters at 7:05 p.m. Sunday reported 2.6 inches of rainfall three miles southwest of North Aurora. Two inches of rain fell in the area between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Kane County Saturday

The Tri-Cities were in for a very nasty storm Saturday afternoon.

Here is our initial post from 3:27 p.m. Aug. 4.: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 4:15 p.m., Aug. 4 for most of the Chicago area, including Kane County. At 2:56 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-size hail and destructive winds in excess of 70 mph, according to a weather alert. These storms were located along a line extending from Winnebago to Rochelle to 7 miles west of Paw Paw and moving east at 55 mph. Sue, My wife is an artist at the Art in your eye event. She said there were several tents blown down or damaged. Some damage to artwork, but most were able to get their work protected before the storm hit. No known injuries. Her tent came through ok, possibly some mjnor damage to a few pieces of art, won't know for sure until tomorrow. She is fine. Shaken, but fine.   more ›

Thunderstorm Knocks Down Power Lines, Branches in Tri-Cities

The National Weather Service and Tri-Com are announces a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Kane County until 7 p.m.

A fast moving thunderstorm caused several power issues across the Tri-Cities late Friday morning. In St. Charles a downed tree at a house on 3rd Street brought down some power lines. City crews were dispatched to repair the lines and power should be restored to the affected homes by 1 p.m., said Tom Bruhl, electric services manager in St. Charles. Possible lightening strikes also temporarily interrupted service in some parts of town, Bruhl said. A portion of Kirk Road was backed up due to what appeared to be downed wires between Geneva Road and Avril Court. Emergency service personnel were on the scene. Public works officials in Geneva said the storm brought tree branches down that impeded traffic. One side street was shut down temporarily…
