St. Charles Gas Line Break on Route 64 Sealed

One-inch gas line broken by contractor disrupted morning traffic on East Main Street/Route 64 in St. Charles.

2:00 p.m. Update: A gas line break along East Main Street/Route 64 brought out St. Charles firefighters and police, crews from Nicor and disrupted traffic through the construction zone Friday morning, but things were back to normal by early afternoon. The initial call to the St. Charles Fire Department went out at 9:12 a.m., and interim Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet said in an email that Nicor crews already were on the scene, working on a break to a 1-inch serving Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St. A contractor had struck the line causing the break. Schelstreet wrote that Nicor representatives asked St. Charles authorities to divert traffic while they shut down the flow of gas and made repairs. “We provided traffic control with a …

A house fire at 608 State Ave. in St. Charles about 12:29 p.m. shook up the Easter Sunday for residents and neighbors on the East Side and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. No one was injured. The St Charles Fire Department arrived at the blaze by 12:32 p.m. and found heavy smoke showing from all floors of the three-story home, according to a release from the department. “Upon entry, fire was found on all three floors,” the release states. “Due to the size of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a first level MABAS box alarm, bringing additional assistance to the scene,” the release states. MABAS is an acronym for Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. According to the release, the fire was extinguished in about 2½ hours. But firefighters …

St. Charles Firefighters Douse Fire at Manufacturing Site

Employees reported the structure fire at 315 S. Kirk Road. None were injured.

Firefighters from St. Charles and four other departments were able to knock down a commercial fire in a building along Kirk Road on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2013, limiting damage to the building to just $5,000. The St. Charles Fire Department arrived at 12:36 p.m. at Pactiv Corporation, 315 S. Kirk Road, where firefighters found flames showing near bar joists supporting the roof in the manufacturing area. In a release issued late Thursday afternoon, acting Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet said the fire was reported at 12:34 p.m. by employees working in the area who observed a fire of about 10 by 15 feet and spreading. 7 Adults Sent to Hospital After Kirk-Fabyan Crash Friday Morning

The crash involved two vehicles, and both drivers received citations. Here’s what happened.

Seven adults were treated and transported to two hospitals Friday morning after a crash at Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway. The crash involved a full-size pickup truck and a full-size passenger van, both of which had to be towed from the scene. The incident occurred at 5:52 a.m. Friday, according to Geneva police. The male driver of the truck received a citation for disregarding a traffic signal. The driver of the van received citations for no valid driver’s license and no insurance, said Eric Passarelli, Geneva police commander. Both drivers and the five passengers had to be taken to either Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva or Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.
