Are You Prepared for Disaster, Geneva? Here's What You Should Know

The Kane County Health Department wants residents to take time this month to prepare for disasters, whether natural or man-made.

September was designated as National Preparedness Month in 2004 as a result of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the anthrax attacks that followed soon afterward. The Kane County Health Department wants residents to take time during the month to take four actions to prepare for disasters — tornadoes, earthquakes, flooding, or even pandemics or terrorist attacks: Each week, the health department will promote ways to take action and be better prepared.  This week’s Kane County Health Department focus is on becoming informed. Geneva High School's students of the month might or might not be the same kids you read about in the sports pages of the local newspapers, but they lead the league in the categories that that are most important. They are great kids who show not only academic excellence, but hard work, leadership and a wonderful attititude toward school and life. Chamber sets its calendar. There's just a ton of stuff going on in Geneva this month.

Here's a look ahead at entertainment and fun events hosted by local businesses in the month of September, courtesy of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. First Fridays Art Gallery Walk (late 'til 9!) — Sept. 2 A self-guided art walk and reception to showcase the art galleries of Geneva “late ’til 9” the first Friday of every month.
