Geneva High School Students Create New Burgers for Tom & Eddie's

Come to Geneva's Tom & Eddie's from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, to sample "The Pineapple Express" and other Geneva High School marketing class burger creations.

The task is simple: create an edible, easily marketable burger for a local establishment to sell to perspective customers. The students of Eric Hatczel's Marketing I class have been given this task to better understand the inner workings of how businesses get their products sold and popularized in a community.  "The goal is to really just challenge us as marketing students," said senior Kristen Schrotenboer, 17, "The project tries to get us to think and be creative on how marketing works. Its true purpose is to make us think out of the box and find ways to succeed and be better than our competition." The project tries to capture the fundamental task of a business: to create an original product and make a profit from said project. It's a …

St. Charles' Pi Pizza, Bistro One West Shut Doors

Bistro One West and Pi Pizza close for good, and Isacco Kitchen closes to retool. But other businesses are opening their doors in St. Charles.

If you’ve looked around downtown St. Charles over the past several weeks, you might have noticed there are a few less places to eat. That certainly was noticed by some of St. Charles Patch’s Facebook followers in recents weeks. Pi Pizza Perfection, 102 E. Main St., closed in late October. A city official confirmed the closure but had no details. While its website does not indicate it has closed, calls to the business are met consistently with a busy signal. The restaurant had served pizza, pasta and other Italian fare for more than a decade. Another casualty is Bistro One West, 1 W. Illinois St. St. Charles Patch learned last week the restaurant is closed, and a short, one-sentence statement on Bistro One West’s website adds confirmation…

Pal Joey’s Gets $100K Incentive to Open in Downtown Batavia

The West Chicago Italian restaurant will expand to downtown Batavia this year. The Batavia City Council voted on some items for the business on Monday night.

A West Chicago restaurant staple will have a downtown Batavia location as early as next month. Pal Joey’s will open its second store in the former Fox’s on the River location at 31 N. River St. by a working date of late June. The Batavia City Council voted Monday to approve a Tax Increment Finance, or TIF, Redevelopment Agreement for Pal Joey’s. The agreement includes a grant of $25,000 under the city’s Downtown Improvement Grant Program, and a loan of up to $75,000. City Council aldermen also voted in favor of a liquor license for the shop. “(City of Batavia) staff views Pal Joey’s as a potential restaurant anchor for the North River Street district and the city’s financial support is essential for this development to take place,” …

That's all well and good - I like Pal Joeys pizza. It just seems a little unfair to Alianos Restaurant (pizza, pasta) that the government is subsidizing its competition   more ›

When it opens at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, Geneva's newest restaurant offers the promise of Mediterranean food the likes of which you've maybe never experienced before. Riganato Old World Grille is all about home cooking, and it's not fancy, but it will be "delicious and comforting," says the owner and chef, Jim Nicolaou. Nicolaou—with his family's help—has put his heart and soul into make the former Rib House property at 700 East State St. into a thing of beauty. The exterior has been remodelled, the interior seats 50, with an outdoor patio that seats an additional 20. Orlando's Pizza Claims Its Geneva Patch Listing!

Orlando's Pizza is a family favorite.

The Nagel family carried out to Orlando's Pizza Friday night. We do that a lot. We also go for dinner at Orlando's a lot. And we try to get to as many pizza places in Geneva as we possibly can, because they're all great. But we keep going back to Orlando's. Great service, great pizza. One night not so long ago, Paula and the kids went there, and when they varied from their usual selections, the server asked, "No garlic bread tonight?" I just love that kind of friendly, personal service. Today, we're happy to announce that Orlando's Pizza has claimed its Patch listing. By claiming its listing, Orlando's is now able to upload photos and vidoes, provide additional information about its menu and specials, link to its own website and Facebook …

Fat Rosie's Taco Bar Disappears Overnight from St. Charles

"They moved out, unbeknownst to us," leasing manager says.

A trendy St. Charles taco bar that opened less than two years ago has quietly and suddenly closed. The leasing agent for the shopping center on West Main Street that Fat Rosie's Taco & Tequila Bar was located at told St. Charles Patch on Tuesday that restaurant management left sometime over the weekend. "They moved out, unbeknownst to us," said Ryan Corcoran, CEO and property manager of Corcoran Comercial Real Estate. Corcoran said was informed over the weekend that the restaurant had been virtually abandoned and that it came as a surprise to him. A number of St. Charles Patch readers and followers wrote to ask about the apparent closing of the popular Mexican restaurant. @danmajewski on Twitter told Patch he had dined at Fat Rosie's on …

Gee, I hope no one was holding any coupons or gift certificates or anything. This is a great example of how NOT to do business. Compare this to the way Isabella's closed -- with prior notice and they honored every gift certificate before closing. Shame on Fat Rosie's owners!   more ›
