Hultgren Calls Obama Administration 'Arrogant' in Wake of IRS Scandal

"These actions are all emblematic of the growing arrogance and disregard for the law seen by this administration,” the 14th District congressman says.

Congressman Randy Hultgren dished out some harsh words for President Barack Obama following an admission by the Internal Revenue Service that high-ranking officials targeted conservative-leaning groups during the 2012 campaign. The IRS news comes in the wake of another revelation that the Justice Department obtained telephone records of journalists working for The Associated Press who were working on a story about a failed al-Qaida plot. “When the Department of Justice is accused of illegally obtaining telephone records to pressure journalists, the EPA is being accused of giving preferential treatment for FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests, and the State Department is actively withholding information and suppressing whistleblowers …

Hultgren Calls for 2 'Common-Sense' Tax Brackets

The "Your Federal Taxpayer Reciept" widget, attached here, tells literally how much of your tax dollar went where. U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren is using it to illustrate his call for simplifying tax codes.

Tax day came and went a few days ago, but it was an occasion Congressman Randy Hultgren used to call for tax reform in the FY14 budget. "On Tax Day, hardworking Americans are reminded of the burden of our current tax code and the need for comprehensive tax reform to create a simpler, fairer one," Hultgren said. "Tax reform will help create a stronger economy — leading to more jobs, better take home pay and more opportunity for every family. The federal budget I helped to pass in the House last month would achieve this by replacing today's complex, costly and time-consuming tax code with two common-sense brackets to allow families keep more of their hard-earned money." "I am calling on the President and the Senate to make tax reform a …

It sure seems strange that they should call contributions to S/S ,and Medicare " taxes", when they are contributions, that the government mandates, for the good of those that "contribute, to prevent total destitution,of those who have to retire for various reasons (old age, injury, etc.) It has, single handedly saved millions of retire's from certain bankruptcy,or worse, over the many years that …   more ›

Hultgren: President's Economic Policies Will Lead Nation on Same Path as Illinois' Fiscal Crisis

Rep. Randy Hultgren said president's economic policies are bad for the country. Compares his policies with fiscal state of Illinois.

U.S. Congressman Randy Hultgren said people only need to look at the fiscal state of Illinois to see where the fiscal policies of President Barack Obama will lead the country. “The bottom line is we have seen in Illinois exactly what the outcome of the Obama era policies are. We’ve seen first-hand as the state has increased taxes, increased spending ... and lost jobs. The state continues to come apart at the seams. That’s what will happen at the federal level, too, as a result of the president’s policies. We know this. We’ve seen it before firsthand in our state. And if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’re going to keep getting what you’ve already got,” Hultgren said in a press release. During his annual State of the Union address to …

Read the article, link pasted below. Hultgren's economic views worry me. Hultgren Seeks to Kill the Death Tax

Congressman co-sponsors legislation to end tax code he calls "immoral" and "unfair."

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren is calling for the repeal of the estate tax, often called the inheritance tax or the death tax. Last week Hultgren, a Winfield Republican, co-sponsored the "Farmers Against Crippling Taxes Act," which would repeal the tax Hultgren called "unfair" and an "assault" on small business owners and farmers. Hultgren, who represents Kendall and Kane counties, said the estate tax hurts economic growth by taxing the same assets multiple times. “As our economy continues to under perform, we must do more to make life more affordable, and encourage people to make the investments in their businesses that will get our economy moving again. The death tax flies in the face of the very foundation of the American dream. Small …

Hultgren: Withhold Congress’ Pay Until Budget Passes

Congressman suggests a way to hold law-makers' feet to the fire.

Fourteenth District Congressman Randy Hultgren has a different sort of idea: No pay for Congress until a budget is passed. Hultgren recently re-introduced the Constitutional Congressional Pay Accountability Act for the 113th Congress. Hultgren says he introduced the bill back in 2011, and it fall flat then. The bill is just five pages—small for Congress—and Hultgren describes it as "straightforward." It would require Congress to pass a budget and all appropriations bills by the beginning of that fiscal year. If the budget doesn’t get passed, members of Congress won’t get paid. "It holds everyone’s feet to the fire," Hultgren said. Hultgren says House leadership is supporting the concept and that it is one component of the temporary debt-…

Rich, the constitution does not allow us to not pay our legislature, so all that would happen is they hold back the money and pay them one lump sum at the end of the year. Randy knows this. He hopes we are too stupid to realize that. It is a public relations ploy that really means nothing. And Jim Ryan is correct that many in Congress are wealthy enough to not need the money. There was an article…   more ›

Hultgren Defends Vote Against Fiscal Cliff Measure

Bill clears Congress, heads off crisis with expiration of Bush, Obama tax cuts, plus new taxes.

Congressional action late Tuesday night ended months of the nation teetering on the edge of the so-called fiscal cliff, a significant tax increase set to begin Jan. 1 with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts and temporary tax cuts put through by President Barack Obama, as well as new taxes and automatic spending cuts. Many feared that had Congress failed to address the issue, the tax increases and automatic spending cuts would have pushed the nation once again headlong into recession. Politico reported that the bipartisan solution was approved in a 257-167 vote by the U.S. House. U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-14th District, was one of those voting against the measure. “The lack of spending cuts in this package is indefensible, which is why I…

Ken, I hope you're comfortable in your bubble. The line-item veto is an interesting issue, worthy of lengthy debate. However, beware of blindly believing right-wing shibboleths such as describing the various news media as being "mostly left leaning." It doesn't take much investigating to discover that the vast majority of the news media are concentrated in the hands of just a few right wingers or…   more ›

Hultgren Announces House Science & National Labs Caucus

The new caucus will concentrate on reinforcing federal investment in research and the national laboratories.

Congressman Randy Hultgren has announced the formation of the House Science & National Labs Caucus. Hultgren is joined by Congressmen Chaka Fattah (D-PA-02), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM-03) and Alan Nunnelee (R-MS-01) who will serve as co-chairs of the new group, with other members of the 113th Congress expected to join next year. The new caucus will concentrate on reinforcing federal investment in research and the national laboratories, as well as raise awareness in and out of Congress about the role they play in long-term economic growth. “These laboratories, much like the rest of the economy, deserve certainty from the government so they can continue their important work with confidence,” Hultgren said. Hultgren, named earlier this year as the …

The NIU Huskies defeated the Kent State Flash at Ford Field in Detroit, MI, in two OTs Friday. Hultgren Win Brings GOP Dominance Back to Illinois' 14th Congressional District

Randy Hultgren coasts to an easy win over Democrat Dennis Anderson—the first incumbent to win 14th District re-election since Dennis Hastert.

In the days when House Speaker Dennis Hastert roamed the Earth, Illinois' 14th Congressional District was a guaranteed red-state Republican romp. The Grand Old Party had gone unbeaten, untied and unscored-upon in this conservative Chicago collar-county district since 1939, and when the former Yorkville High School wrestling coach rose to the lofty post of House speaker, it seemed there would be no end to the 14th District Republican dynasty. Then came Hastert's curious midterm retirement. And a nationwide Democratic insurgence. And Bill Foster’s 2008 win over Hastert’s hand-picked successor, Jim Oberweis. Randy Hultgren righted the 14th District ship for his political party with a close win over Foster in 2010 and sealed the deal Tuesday …
