Limited tickets are still available for The Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research dinner dance fundraiser on April 27 at the Herrington Inn & Spa in Geneva. Lisa Dent of US*99, America’s Country Music Station will act as emcee for the night. The night will feature the music of Robert Cornelius 7, as well as Chanson du Chat during the cocktail hour. Robert Cornelius is a well-known musician in the Chicago area, who is the nephew of Soul Train founder, Don Cornelius. Items for the auction include: a two-night stay for up to four people at a winery in a private guest house, including private tours and tastings at three wineries, a special Hearts of Fire diamond jewelry from State Street Jewelers, and one of the last cases of the …
The Paul Ruby Foundation was able to fund two proposals this year at Northwestern University's Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center.
The foundation raised $100,000 from Concert for a Cure and Sub 5 Century Challenge this year, as well as from Boy Scout Troop 37's ride to Niagara Falls. The foundation was provided with several grant proposals, and the foundation voted to fund $20,000 for Dr. Jerilyn Logemann’s research on the development and validation of a screening process for swallowing disorders in Parkinson’s patients. The foundation also funded $80,000 for Dr. Rajeshar Awatramani’s research on assessing the function of a dopamine neuron subtype that is vulnerable in Parkinson’s disease. Members of the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board traveled to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they heard grant proposals and receiving updates on the research that was …
The 2012 Concert for a Cure adds another $100,000 to the total the local foundation has raised for Parkinson's research.
This year’s Concert for a Cure, held on Aug. 28 at Tanna Farms, was hugely successful and enabled the Paul Ruby Foundation to raise this year’s goal of $100,000 for Parkinson’s research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center. Eleven bands provided entertainment for the more than 1,200 people who attended this year’s concert. More than 200 volunteers helped make the concert happen, providing invaluable help and ensuring everything ran smoothly the day of the concert. The Paul Ruby Foundation has now raised more than $500,000 for Parkinson’s research, and the board of the foundation will go to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Oct. 24 to hear presentations on research projects that need funding…

This year, the foundation welcomes Miles Nielsen and The Rusted Heart Band. Nielsen, an Illinois native, is the son of Cheap Trick founder Rick Nielsen. The Geneva Boy Scout troop is raising money for the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson's Research through their 750 mile trek to Niagara Falls.
Scouts of Boy Scout Troop 37, of Geneva will be riding 750 miles to Niagara Falls on bike and supporting the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The ride will begin on July 21, and conclude around Aug. 5, back in Geneva. Seventeen Scouts and adults will be riding the trip. Jacob Volk, a rising sophomore at Geneva High School, presented this project to the scoutmaster as a possible “High Adventure” trip for this year. Jacob’s presentation and project was chosen, and Jacob became the trip coordinator for the bike ride. Jacob is one of the younger scouts making the trip and is excited to help out the Paul Ruby Foundation as well as participate in an exciting trip. “I like being in charge and putting it all together to make …

The GHS seniors donate money to the Paul Ruby Foundation through their annual bike ride.
On May 19, English teacher Brian Burns held the annual Geneva High School Senior Bike Ride. The ride, which began at former Mill Race Inn, ended in Wheaton and had around 60 seniors participate. Burns, along with Paul Thill, has been doing the race many years, and it is a staple of the senior experience at the high school. Several other teachers joined as well. This year, the ride raised money for the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Class President Kevin Brouilette and Vice-President Maureen Levy decided to support the foundation through donations and purchases of shirts. The Paul Ruby Foundation has begun planning for the 6th Annual Concert for a Cure to be held on Aug. 25, 2012, at Tanna Farms in Geneva. This all-day music event is one of the largest music festivals in the Fox Valley and features some of the region’s best bands. Once again, the concert will have two stages and will be a day-long, family-friendly music event with proceeds benefitting Parkinson’s research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder’s Center. Not only will there be some of the area’s best musicians, but there will also be a live and silent auction, with items up for bid ranging from tickets to Chicago sporting events to vacations in Napa Valley. The first “Paintings 4 Parkinson’s” fine art exhibit and sale will be on display from Nov. 4 to Dec. 9 at Art Box 514 W. State St., Geneva. In addition to the ongoing exhibit, artists will be available every Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. throughout the show dates for an informal reception to meet buyers and guests. Attendees will marvel at the creative process of these pieces, which will consist of several mediums.
