String of Garage Burglaries Prompts Police Warning

Residents were home, but none of the doors had deadbolts, and there were no lights on outside at the service doors.

The North Aurora Police Department is alertiing the public to three garage burglaries that occurred overnight (April 4 to April 5, 2013) in the Tanner Trails subdivision while the residents were home. Two burglaries took place in the 500 block of Kelley Drive, North Aurora, where someone entered through the side garage service door. In one case, a person or persons used a screwdriver or other tool to force entry, then went into vehicles and stole a purse and a laptop computer. In the other Kelly Drive burglary, entry was made through the unlocked side service door but nothing was stolen. A third overnight entry took place in the 2800 block of Berman Road, where the offender(s) entered through the unlocked side service door. Nothing was …

UPDATE: North Aurora Man Turns Himself in After Allegedly Choking, Threatening to Kill His Wife

A North Aurora man who is the foster child of Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner has been charged with domestic battery and interference reporting a domestic battery after an incident Sunday in which police say he choked and threatened to kill his wife. North Aurora police reported to the 200 block of Magnolia Drive around 10:29 a.m. Sunday, March 3, for a report of a domestic dispute and spoke with a woman, who said her husband, Anthony J. Scotti, 35, had fled the scene in a vehicle after pushing her to the ground, choking her and threatening her life. Scotti later turned himself in to the North Aurora Police Department, police said, and was booked and charged with the following Class A misdemeanors: one count of domestic battery causing bodily …

'Dr. Sylvia' Charged With Unlawful Dentistry Practice At Route 31 Business

The woman, who doesn't have a dentistry license, practiced on patients after hours and on weekends when the business was closed, police said.

An Aurora woman faces charges of illegally practicing dentistry at a North Aurora dental office, police said. North Aurora police and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office have obtained a criminal indictment against the woman for illegal dentistry practice at the North Aurora Dental Associates office on the 100 block of North Lincolnway (Route 31). The defendant is Silvia Hernandez, 37, of the 400 block of Iowa Avenue, Aurora. Hernandez was indicted last week by a Kane County Grand Jury on the following charges: The charges come after an investigation of over seven months by North Aurora police detectives. Is this "Dr. Silvia" even a Registered Dental Hygienist? I looked up her name in the IDFPR database. There was no listing of her name in the licensure section. If she ever had a license to practice dental hygiene it would be there. Even if she held a license at one time but let it lapse, I believe it would be listed as "not renewed" or "expired" or possibly "revoked" had that occurred. If she …   more ›

POLICE: Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Stabbing of Father in North Aurora

This 23-year-old is accused of stabbing his father on Monday, according to police. He was later found hiding under a pile of debris.

A 23-year-old North Aurora man faces two counts of first-degree murder in the death of his father on Monday, police said. Martrell D. Harris is accused of stabbing his father, Michael D. Harris, Sr., in the chest, according to a North Aurora Police Department press release. Officers were dispatched at 10:12 a.m. Monday to the Harris home on the 700 block of Jorstad Lane for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, the officers found Harris Sr. unresponsive on the front porch.  He was transported to Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora by North Aurora Fire Department paramedics.
