The 25th State Senate and 50th State Representative District candidates to be featured during event at Geneva High School.
On Monday, Oct. 22, the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County will present a candidates forum featuring two contested races for state offices in the Nov. 6 General Election. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Geneva High School, 416 McKinley St., Geneva. The public is invited to come and ask questions of the candidates. The forum will feature candidates for the 25th State Senate District, Jim Oberweis (R) and Corinne Pierog (D); and 50th State Representative District Andrew Bernard (D) and Kay Hatcher (R). A primary goal of the League of Women Voters is to encourage educated and active participation of citizens in government. To the Editor: On Nov. 6, Illinois voters will vote on a proposal to amend the Illinois Constitution. This proposal would amend the constitution to require a three-fifths majority vote of each chamber of the Illinois General Assembly, as well as the governing bodies of any unit of local government, school district or pension or retirement system in order to increase a benefit under any public pension or retirement system. The League of Women Voters of Illinois opposes this proposal and urges voters to vote no. The league’s opposition is unrelated to the pension issues the proposal raises but rather focuses on the three-fifths majority requirement. The League of Women Voters strongly supports governmental systems that are transparent, …

The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County is launching an extensive campaign to register new voters before the Nov. 6 General Election, according to a release issued Wednesday. The deadline to register to vote in Illinois is Oct. 9. “This election is about everyone standing up for the things that matter most to us and our families. Sunday, Aug. 26, marked the 92nd anniversary of the constitutional amendment that granted women the right to vote, and the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County is celebrating Women’s Equality Day by preparing voters for this fall’s big election. “On this Women’s Equality Day, we are focused on protecting voting rights for all and making sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to,” local league President Sarah Collins said in a release.
