SHERIFF: Fatal Crash Reported on Route 38 Near Elburn Tuesday Afternoon

Route 38 was closed for about 3.5 hours while police responded to the crash.

Update: Route 38 was open again to traffic at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police released the name of the driver who died in the crash. A fatal crash late Tuesday morning shut down Route 38 in the Elburn area, police said. Route 38 was blocked between Route 47 and Meredith Road, and was closed for several hours, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. A Patch staffer near the scene said motorists accessed Route 47 for a detour. The crash occurred on Route 38 and Francis Road, about 2.3 miles west of Routes 38 and 47. Some of the scanner reports for the crash came in at 11:51 a.m. A car and semi-tractor trailer were involved in the accident, according to scanner reports. UPDATE: Police Identify Geneva Man Found Dead at Kane County Events Center

A Kane County spokesperson identifies the Geneva man as Casey Gemeny, 43, of Geneva.

The 43-year-old Geneva man found dead Saturday afternoon at the Kane County Events Center has been identified as Casey Gemeny of Geneva, a county spokesperson said Tuesday. Kane County Community Affairs Director Laurie Metanchuk said Forest Preserve police discovered Gemeny's body in the northeast corner of the Events Center property at around 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. Metanchuk said earlier Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Kane County Forest Preserve police, in conjunction with the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Unconfirmed reports Saturday said police were notified after someone on a train said they saw a body in a tree on the property near Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Police Name Driver in Fatal Route 25 Crash

The 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Here is his identity and how the crash happened.

Police Monday afternoon identified the driver who died at the scene of a two-car crash on Route 25 near Batavia. The driver is 45-year-old Karl Smith of St. Charles, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Smith was driving a sport-utility vehicle on Route 25 along a curve when his vehicle spun out of control, crossing into opposite traffic, the Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash north of the Banbury Road intersection at about 9 a.m. Jan. 7. The SUV struck a Honda Accord that was traveling south on Route 25. The driver of the Accord, a 60-year-old woman from Batavia, was transported to Delnor Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was later released from Delnor Monday afternoon, a Cadence …

One person is dead and another was sent to the hospital. Here are the initial details.

Update: Police Monday afternoon identified the driver who died at the scene of the crash. A fatal crash occurred Monday morning on Route 25 south of Batavia, police confirmed. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, which happened at about 9 a.m. Jan. 7 on Route 25 near Banbury Road in unincorporated Batavia. This is south of Funway and Bond Drive in Batavia and north of the Fox Valley Country Club. "One person was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and there is one confirmed fatality," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Woman Crashes Into Utility Pole Head-On Along Route 31 Sunday

A West Chicago woman was transported after she hit a wooden utility pole head on Sunday evening along Route 31, police said. The crash occurred on Route 31 north of the Mooseheart campus and south of Millview Drive in Batavia. Police, fire and the Kane Co. Sheriff's Office were dispatched the scene at 6:16 p.m., Batavia Sgt. Mike Johnson said. The woman was headed northbound in her vehicle when she suddenly veered off the roadway and hit a pole, according to police. Airbags were deployed. "The car is likely going to be a total loss — she hit the pole 40-45 miles (per hour) head on," Johnson said. Sheriff: Man in Car vs Semi Crash Died at Hospital

One of two drivers in a northern Kane County car vs. semi crash on Thursday has died, the Sheriff's Office said. Martin Baureis, 26, of Johnsburg, Ill., died at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Sheriff's detectives were notified of the death at about 11 a.m. Friday morning. Baureis was taken to Condell Medical by the Flight for Life Helicopter after the crash, which occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Sheriff's deputies reported to the area of Route 72 east of Big Timber Road in Rutland Township and found the crash scene. Baureis was driving a Toyota four-door westbound on Route 72 when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, the Sheriff's Office said. Update: The man injured in this crash has died. A 26-year-old McHenry County man was seriously injured in a car vs. semi crash Thursday in northern Kane County, according to police. Martin Baureis, of Johnsburg, Ill., was driving a Toyota four-door on Route 72 east of Big Timber Road when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said. Update: Skeletal Remains Are That of Missing Woman, Police Confirm

Officials do not suspect foul play in the death of the 52-year-old.

The human remains found in northwest Kane County are indeed those of a 52-year-old woman reported missing earlier this year, police announced Monday afternoon. Kane County sheriff’s detectives were able to positively identify the remains as those of Kathey Wilk, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release. “The cause of death is undetermined; however investigators do not suspect that foul play was involved in her death,” the release said. Wilk, a village of Hampshire resident, was reported missing by her brother. Hampshire Police located a note inside her residence when she was initially reported missing. Police found skeletal remains and clothing during a Nov. 23 search conducted as part of the missing person case. The discovery was …
