Existing ramps remain open during construction of new, full access, all-electronic interchange.
Traffic on Illinois Route 47 has been shifted onto new pavement and a new bridge over the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90), as part of the Illinois Tollway’s Illinois Route 47 Interchange Project in Huntley. The work on Illinois Route 47 is underway to prepare for construction of a new all-electronic interchange. “Completion of what will become the new southbound lanes and bridge on Illinois Route 47 is a great sign of progress for this important interchange project,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur. “Not only will this project improve access for Tollway customers traveling to and from Huntley, it will also offer opportunities for new jobs and economic development in the area.” With completion of the traffic …
Pre-Halloween Traffic Nightmare? The posted detour will direct westbound traffic to the Mannheim Road interchange from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.
The ramp carrying traffic from the eastbound Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) to westbound I-290 is scheduled to close overnight this week and traffic detoured for pavement resurfacing. Ramp closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, and from 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, until 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. The detour will route traffic east on I-88 to I-290, where drivers will be directed to exit at Mannheim Road north, then re-enter via the westbound I-290 entrance ramp. Closure of the ramp is necessary to complete pavement resurfacing because the ramp is not wide enough to accommodate a work zone while maintaining traffic, the Illinois Tollway said in a press release. The work is being done …
Rather than spend more time complaining about about how you all annoy me, here are some perks I'd be willing to pay handsomely to avoid some of life's annoying inconveniences!
If you’ve been reading the Trib’s John Hilkevitch lately, then you know the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning is currently asking the Tollway Authority to consider a traffic model known as “congestion pricing.” Under this plan, a special lane charging 5 to 31 cents more per rush hour mile would be designated on or added to our major metropolitan expressways. The supply-and-demand theory is that some folks would be willing to pay more to cut 20 to 25 minutes off their commute. But despite its success in other cities, it ain’t gonna work here. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so does the Illinois Tollway. Our brand of traffic futility consistently ranks in the nation’s top 10, so unless you’re going to force ‘em to fork over some real cash…

Jeff, I usually like a lot of what you have to say but I didn't realize you were such a misogynist. Maybe you notice women doing all that stuff in grocery stores because women patronize grocery stores more than men. I'm not sure that women have a monopoly on doing the things you mention in your article. I get just as annoyed by the grocery store behavior you mention as you do, but I don't think …   more ›
Be sure to observe the 45-mph speed limit in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Otherwise, you could be ticketed a minimum of $375 for speeding in a work zone.
If your Memorial Day plans include a road trip via the tollway, you will have plenty of company. The Illinois Tollway is expecting approximately 7 million vehicles will travel the Tollway system this Memorial Day holiday from Friday, May 25, through Tuesday, May 29. The Tollway expects the heaviest travel on Friday, May 25, when nearly 1.6 million vehicles are projected to be on the road. On an average day, about 1.4 million vehicles use the Tollway. Tollway officials, in a prepared news release, stress the need to drive safely in construction work zones throughout the system. The Tollway is restricting construction activity and suspending all temporary construction lane closures over the holiday weekend. “While there is a lot of …
A corporation can get its logo and name on emergency trucks, signs, uniforms and more.
If you or someone you know has ever been stranded on the Illinois Tollway, the tollway assistance truck was a welcome sight. The next time you see the truck, it may be sporting a corporate name. A total of 13 trucks are part of the Highway Emergency Lane Patrol (H.E.L.P.) Program. They are driven over the 286-mile tollway system, and provide an array of services including changing flat tires, charging dead batteries, adding coolant and fuel, assisting with incidents and arranging for tows. The program costs the Tollway about $2 million annually, and officials want to cover the costs with corporate sponsorship. The Illinois Tollway has issued an invitation for bid (IFB) to select a sponsor to foot the bill. “We are continually looking for …
Closures are scheduled on I-294 and I-90; detours are in place.
Construction on the I-294/I-90 tri-level bridge project is scheduled to resume March 18. This year’s work will require the full closure through early July of the ramp bridge carrying northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) traffic to the westbound Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and full closure of the eastbound I-190 ramp from O’Hare International Airport to westbound I-90. Electronic message signs and directional signs will be put in place to alert drivers to the closures and detour. The tri-level bridge project will extend the life of the complicated interchange that connects I-294 to I-90 and provide safe and convenient travel for Tollway customers. The project began in 2011 with the reconstruction of the ramp carrying southbound I-…
