St. Charles Forgery Arrest May Be Part of Larger Ring

Attempt to purchase six rolls of “Forever” stamps may be part of ring buying stamps illicitly, then selling the stamps off for cash.

A man charged with forgery and possession of a fraudulent driver’s license may have given postal authorities the information they need to make a federal case of the incident. Brian Eugene Woodhouse, 54, of the 7600 block of Luella Street, Chicago, who was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the St. Charles Post Office, 2600 Oak St., has been charged with forgery, a Class 3 felony, and possession of a fraudulent identification, a Class 4 felony. Woodhouse was told he would not face federal charges. Postal inspectors, however, who interviewed him when he tried to purchase six rolls of “Forever” stamps with a forged check, believe he may be part of a larger ring and have asked to interview him a second time. Police Warn of Identity Theft Scams

Two St. Charles residents are hit by similar scam in the past week.

After taking two identity theft reports in the past week in which the victims’ information was used to order items online, the St. Charles Police Department is warning residents to beware of online scams the seek your personal information. According to police, both victims reported that they received a package delivered to their homes by UPS. One package contained an Apple MacBook laptop, the other delivery item was an iPhone. Both victims told police they did not order the items, and after the delivery, they contacted the company that shipped the merchandise, according to a police department release. The victims determined that someone had established a new line of credit in their name and had the items shipped to their address. In both …

Woman Charged With Identity Theft of 65-Year-Old Colorado Resident

The following information was supplied by the St. Charles Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two separate cases of identity theft were reported in the St. Charles police blotter this week. Identity Theft Arrest in St. Charles Isabel Lopez, 42, of the 700 block of West Brown Street, West Chicago, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 25, at her place of employment in the 3600 block of Swenson Avenue in St. Charles on one count of aggravated identity theft, a Class 1 felony. According to St. Charles police, a 65-year-old Lakewood, CO, resident reported to police there that someone in St. Charles, IL, was using her Social Security number. Lakewood police traced the use of the number to a St. Charles business address and then contacted St. Charles police. St. Charles police arrested Lopez at the business, and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s …

Four reports of identity theft were made to St. Charles police last month. In the past six months, 15 reports of stolen or attempts to steal personal information came to the attention of officers.  A few tips are listed below help you protect yourself.
