CORRECTION: Larsen House Is in Elburn, So We Need a Geneva Home for Deck the House!

It's a very cool entry and you can still vote for it. But unfortunately, the Larsen house can't win $100,000 for Geneva public schools.

Holy smokes, we thought we had an entry in the Patch "Deck the House" contest, but unfortunately, the Larsen house is in Elburn, and Geneva schools can't benefit from your vote. The good news is that Patch readers let us know the Brian Larsen "Reflections of Earth" display is in Eburn before I had too big a pro-Geneva conniption. Thank you for that! Patch marketing confirmed that the zip code for the house is 60119. Our apologies for the error. All that said, there's still plenty of time for an actual Geneva home to be entered in the contest and for Geneva schools to have a shot at th $100,000. "So if you think your holiday decorations are the best in town, upload a picture of your house and enter our Deck the House Contest. And don’t …

Scrooge Redux: Tires Sliced as Well as Holiday Lights

Police reports: Whoever cut the holiday lights also might have sliced some Lexus tires.

On the same night that the unofficial first Scrooge of the season sliced the cords of some holiday lights of a house on Fargo Boulevard, someone sliced some tires on a car parked a few blocks away. Geneva police report that someone punctured the rear-side tire of a Lexus 400 parked in a driveway of the 1700 block of Fargo Boulevard sometime between 8 p.m. Nov. 25 and noon Nov. 26, reports said. The owner discovered that the flat tire likely was an act of vandalizism after he took the tire to the shop, where an employee showed him that slits had been cut in the tire’s sidewalls. The police report noted that this was the second report of criminal damage on Fargo the same night—the other being the cut electrical cord for holiday lights at a …

Police Reports: First Big 'Bah Humbug' of the Holiday Season

Christmas lights get cut off—literally.

OK, it's official. The first big Geneva "humbug" exclamation of the 2011 holiday season took place sometime between 9 a.m. Nov. 24 and noon Nov. 25. That was when someone cut the electrical cord of a string of lights decorating the east-side front bushes of a home in the 1400 block of Fargo Boulevard, according to Geneva police reports. But sadly, that was just the first "Scrooge" of the day. The homeowner said he replaced the lights soon after he found the cut cord at around noon. At 5 p.m., he discovered that, for a second time, someone had cut the cord to a string of lights. This time, it was on the west-side bushes in front of the residence. Happy holidays. The cords were valued at $10.   If you have any information regarding this or …
