'Slight' Chance for a White Christmas in Geneva

The National Weather Service plays Santa Claus with a forecast that looks good for snow on Dec. 25.

If you love a white Christmas and you live in Geneva, you just might be in luck in 2012. The National Weather Service-Chicago forecast for our neck of the woods calls for a slight chance of snow showers on Christmas eve (Monday, Dec. 24) and Christmas day (Tuesday, Dec. 25.) That, coupled with the small amount of snow that fell on Geneva Thursday and Friday, might translate to at least a little of the white stuff covering the ground and making the season a little more bright. The forecast indicates the snow could melt off, however, over the weekend. The high temperature for Saturday is 40 degrees, and it's supposed to get up to 38 degreees on Sunday. But after that: Merry Christmas to all in Geneva, IL.

Geneva Neighborhood's Holiday Flamingos Benefit Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Flamingos are "on the loose" in Geneva and hiding in the neighborhood roughly bordered by Cheever Avenue to the north, Dunstan Road to the west, Fargo Boulevard to the South and Route 31 to the east.

In a quiet Geneva neighborhood around Meadows Road, a flock of holiday flamingos has returned to assist this year’s charity: the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org), benefitting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. With the stated mission of "having fun and spreading joy from our neighborhood to yours," Project Holiday Flamingo was launched last year to demonstrate the spirit of the season in a light-hearted way. Neighbors in a four-block area joined forces for the month of December to hide flamingos and hopefully draw attention to a not-for-profit organization. In 2011, Geneva Flamingos assisted with collecting books for U.S. service men and women overseas. The campaign was very successful, with more than 1,252 paperback books received and …

The All Chocolate Kitchen's Alain Roby has done it again, setting the Guinness World Record for "World's Longest Sugar Cane."

Chef Alain Roby of Geneva's All Chocolate Kitchen set the Guinness World Record for "World's Longest Sugar Cane" Saturday in downtown Geneva, IL. Roby's sugar cane creation stretched 51 feet when all was said and done, shattering the previous world record of 38 feet, according to an article in the Kane County Chronicle. Roby's 51-foot feat is his third Guinness record, the previous being his 12-foot-10 "World's Tallest Cooked Sugar Building" and 20-foot-8 "World's Tallest Chocolate Sculpture," according to the All Chocolate Kitchen website.
