Letter to the Editor: "The volunteerism and community spirit is truly inspiring."
Dear Geneva Community, We are sincerely grateful for those of you who came to the aid of the Herrington last week! With the teamwork of the countless volunteers, we were able to save the hotel from flooding. The amount of community support was overwhelming, and we thank everyone who came together to assist wherever needed. The volunteerism and community spirit is truly inspiring. Thank you! Paul Ruby The Herrington Inn & Spa
An urgent plea for volunteers at The Herrington results in an outpouring of help.
Paul Ruby, operator of the Herrington Inn, made an urgent plea for anyone who can volunteer to help save the landmark business. And help they did. Yes, it's still the holiday season, but it's also getting very close to wedding-planning season, believe it or not. Two Geneva wedding planners share a few of their favorite misadventures and happy moments.
Engagement season is almost here, believe it or not. And if you've ever seen the movie, The Wedding Planner, you know what a big deal that is. Geneva has its own versions of Mary Fiore, played by Jennifer Lopez in the movie, and they're getting their game faces on for 2012. With almost 50 years' experience between them, the Herrington Inn & Spa’s Deanne Mitchell and Riverside Reception’s Tina Droznek have seen it all. Mitchell began her catering career at the Ambassador West Hotel in the mid '80s, and has been The Herrington Inn & Spa’s “Director of Romance” for the past 12 years. She has retained strong bonds with her brides and often plans the baby showers and anniversary parties of previous wedding reception clients. Along the way, she …

My husband and I volunteered that morning and would do it again. First, as trained volunteer first responders, we are "obligated" to do so. But also, the history (1874) of the buildings are worth preserving regardless of the current landlord. The beauty of the Fox Valley comes with a significant history and we all are custodians of that history - not landlords.   more ›
