Reports: A township electoral board denies Geoffrey Carreiro a shot at the April 9 ballot after his petition is challenged by a Township Board member.
A Geneva Township electoral board has rejected the petition of a candidate who filed a petition to run for Geneva Township clerk, according to an article in the Daily Herald. The electoral board made the decision at 4 p.m. Thursday during a hearing at the township office, 400 Wheeler Drive. Geoffrey Carreiro submitted a petition with 162 signatures endorsing his candidacy for the position being vacated by longtime Township Clerk Barb Olson. That's just six more than the required 156, according to articles in the Kane County Chronicle and Daily Herald. I find this whole affair very dissappointing. I will probably be at the next meeting and will make a three minute (the limit) comment. I will also be calling Geoffrey Carreiro to offer any assistance with his write in campaign. I encourage anyone else that finds this unsettling to do the same.
