Cops on the Roof of Dunkin' Donuts

Batavia and Geneva police departments will be teaming up to support the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

On Friday, May 31, the Batavia and Geneva Police Departments will be teaming up to support the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Both agencies will have officers on hand at the Dunkin Donuts store located on the corner of Wilson Street and Randall Road from 6 a.m. to noon. Officers will be collecting donations from patrons and will have police officers on the rooftop of Dunkin Donuts to support the cause. All of the money collected will support Special Olympics Illinois.

Police Blotter: Spray-Painted Parking Garage, Stolen Blackberry and a Stolen License Plate

Vandalism and two car burglaries grace this week's police blotter.

Here's a roundup of crime in Geneva. Vandalism—Someone spay painted graffiti on the northwest corner of the main level of the parking garage at 597 South Third Street sometime prior to its discovery at 2:55 a.m. May 9, reports said. The graffiti was written in yellow paint and appeared to be an “S” and another unreadable marking. There was no estimate of the cost to repaint or repair the damage. Burglary—Someone took a Blackberry cellphone from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a private residence in the 3300 block of Fieldstone Drive sometime between 11 p.m. May 8 and 5 a.m. May 8, reports said. The value of the cellphone was estimated at $100. Theft Under $500—Someone took the license plate from a vehicle parked in the Geneva Commons …

Don't be driving under the influence at any time—and if you are DUI, you can get arrested if you drive through downtown Geneva in the wee hours of the morning. Here are two examples from the Geneva Police Department blotter: DUI—Geneva police arrested Joseph Vernagallo, 34, of Geneva on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and no valid driver’s license after a traffic stop around 12:49 a.m. May 11 in the 300 block of West State Street, reports said. Vernagallo has a court date of June 12 at the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles. DUI—Geneva police arrested Ashley Kuntz, 27, of Batavia on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol content of .08 or more and …

Someone Smashes Windows at Heartland Elementary School

Four big windows appeared to have been struck by a rock, Geneva police report.

Someone broke four windows at Heartland Elementary School, 3300 Heartland Drive, sometime between 11 p.m. May 7 and 6 a.m. May 8, Geneva Police Department reports said. Three windows on the north side of the building, measuring 52 inches by 18 inches appeared to have been struck by a rock. “There is a bed of rocks that borders the exterior wall of the school, consistent in size and shape to cause the damage,” reports said. I live behind heartland and there r always cars in and out at night. I've called the police but by the time they get there kids have scattered. I know it would not help w foot traffic but why not put up some sort of blockade at parking lots after hours. Four driving-under-the-influence reports were filed by Batavia and Geneva police departments in blotter reports collected this week. DUI—Geneva police arrested Juan Toniz, 41, of Geneva on charges of unlawful or fictitious identification card and driving under the influence of alcohol around 11:30 a.m. May 1 in the 700 block of North Street, reports said. His vehicle was towed to Duke and Lee’s Service Corp., 609 Batavia Ave. DUI, Possession of Cannabis—Geneva police arrested Sean Hamman, 23, of Wheaton on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of cannabis less than 2.5 grams and driving on the sidewalk after a traffic stop around 5:12 a.m. May 3, reports said. Police File Charges on Reckless Driving April 24 Accident at East Fabyan Parkway and Route 25

A Ford Escape driven by Kenneth Fredrickson, 49, of Elgin collided with the front of a Honda Civic driven by Abigail Pedersen, 33, of Batavia around 4:05 p.m. April 24 in a bizarre crash at the intersection of East Fabyan Parkway and Crissey Avenue (Route 25). According to Geneva police reports, Pedersen’s Civic was stopped waiting to turn left on a green light at State Route 25 (Crissey Avenue) and East Fabyan Parkway when Fredrickson’s westbound Escape left the road, drove into the parkway between an electric box and a traffic signal pole, drove back onto the roadway, struck the Civic and “proceeded to drive away without stopping,” reports said. Smash-and-Grab Car Burglary Nets $1,000 in Electronics

The smash-and-grab adds to a long list of similar burglaries.

Someone broke the passenger-side window of a Nisan Rogue parked in the 0-100 block of North Fourth Street sometime between 6:60 p.m. and 9 p.m. April 30 and took about $1,000 worth of electronic equipment, Geneva police reports said. The burglar took a Dell laptop computer valued at about $600, a Blackberry cell phone valued at $200 and Coach computer bag valued at $200. The cost to replace the passenger-side window was estimated at $400. Police Reports: Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle at Kirk Road Intersection on His Birthday

No charges are filed in the collision, and the teen refuses an ambulance trip to Delnor Hospital, according to police reports.

A vehicle struck a pedestrian on his 16th birthday, but the young man apparently was able to leave the scene on his own power, police reports indicate. The front of a Honda Element Driven by Aimee Edlin, 33, of St. Charles struck a pedestrian, Matthew Krautter of St. Charles, as the teenager was travelling north in the crosswalk through the intersection around 5 p.m. May 8, reports said. Krautter told police he had a green light when he entered the crosswalk but he had not activated the pedestrian signal at the intersection, reports said. Two witnesses told police that northbound Kirk Road traffic had a green left-turn signal and green light when Krautter entered the intersection. No charges or warning notices were issued. People do not pay attention, they text, talk on the phone and day dream. I walk kirk just about every morning. If their not speeding, their just not paying attention. Homeless Teenager Charged With Possession of Drug Equipment; Batavian Arrested in Geneva Park

Geneva Police Department reports include a number of unusual, cannabis-related items—all three of which were arrests made in unnamed Geneva parks. Possession of Drug Equipment—Geneva police arrested Zachary Duncan, 18, listed as “homeless” on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, for having in his possession one multicolored pipe and one makeshift pipe crafted out of a hollowed-out pen, reports said. The arrest was made around 9:38 a.m. May 7 in a park somewhere in Geneva. Duncan has a court date of June 18 at the Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. 71-Year-Old Motorcycle Driver Crashes on Blackman Road

A school bus is in the area but not involved in the crash, police say.

A 71-year-old motorcycle driver attempting to pass a vehicle crashed on Blackman Drive at the intersection of Blackman Court around 3:05 p.m. May 6, Geneva police reports said. Kenneth Musil, 71, of Geneva was driving a Honda CN250 east on Blackman Drive while a GMC Cutaway driven by Sandra Roman, 54, of Bartlett was stopped eastbound in the intersection of Blackman Drive waiting to turn left onto Blackman court. The motorcyclist attempted to pass the GMC on the left as the GMC was activating its turn signal, reports said. Musil “made an evasive action to avoid striking” the GMC, lost control and crashed on the driver’s right side of the motorcycle. Musil was taken to Delnor Hospital by Medic 251.
