A school bus is in the area but not involved in the crash, police say.
A 71-year-old motorcycle driver attempting to pass a vehicle crashed on Blackman Drive at the intersection of Blackman Court around 3:05 p.m. May 6, Geneva police reports said. Kenneth Musil, 71, of Geneva was driving a Honda CN250 east on Blackman Drive while a GMC Cutaway driven by Sandra Roman, 54, of Bartlett was stopped eastbound in the intersection of Blackman Drive waiting to turn left onto Blackman court. The motorcyclist attempted to pass the GMC on the left as the GMC was activating its turn signal, reports said. Musil “made an evasive action to avoid striking” the GMC, lost control and crashed on the driver’s right side of the motorcycle. Musil was taken to Delnor Hospital by Medic 251. No citations were issued, according to the…

The eagles still are landing along the Fox River—and in this case, one is under attack.
After the emergency disaster drill Friday at Geneva Middle School South, AJ demanded a walk. So I took him on one of the usual routes to the Fox River, just to see how high the river might be. The answer to that one: Still pretty high. We couldn't get through to Division Street along the bike path—the river still was over the bank and the Fox River Trail. But on the way home, we saw a pair of eagles gliding overhead. They were much closer than you might think by looking at this video. I did my best to capture the majesty of the birds within the limits of my equipment and my talent. What you'll see here is something a bit unusual: a hawk, I think, dive bombing the eagle, which was clearly in hunt mode. Unfortunately, you'll have to look …

For undisclosed reasons, St. Peter School in Geneva dismisses Principal Roseann Feldmann, who has agreed to stay on until the end of the school year.
St. Peter School will dismiss Principal Roseann Feldmann at the end of the school year. In a March 22 letter to St. Peter School parents, the Rev. Martins Emeh said he made the decision "to seek new leadership" for the school, which serves about 510 students in preschool through eighth grade. "Roseann Feldmann will not be returning next year. I am personally appreciative and grateful for her devoted service at St. Peter School for the past five years," Emeh wrote. Feldmann agreed to continue at St. Peter School through the end of this academic year, the letter said. Emeh said the Catholic Education Commission supported the decision, but the reasons for the termination were not made public. "Per diocesan policy and applicable civil law, I …

Crain's Chicago Business reports 24.1 percent of Geneva homeowners own their homes outright.
If the interactive map on Crain's Chicago business is correct, about 24.1 percent of Geneva homeowners have paid off their mortgages. That's an impressive statistic, particularly during these economic times, when we see so many foreclosures and double-mortgages. The stats on the Crain's map don't match up 1-for-1 with the source data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey 2007-11, but if they are accurate, more than 1,543 of us have paid off our mortgage loans. According to the map, Geneva leads the league among its neighbors. About 23.5 percent of St. Charles' 8,691 mortgage-holders and 16.2 percent of 7,187 Batavia mortgage-holdlers have paid off their home loans. West Chicago must have more rental units and higher residency …
