Tickets Available and Voting Open for 30 Men vs. 30 Women Who Cook

In its fifth year, the popular 60 Men Who Cook has a new look—adding women to the recipe, mixing it up and titling it "30 Men vs 30 Women Who Cook."

It's the battle of the sexes, culinary style. Sixty local celebrities will demonstrate their cooking skills when the Geneva Chamber of Commerce presents this event to benefit the Geneva History Center, Geneva Lions Club and Rotary Club of Geneva. The event is at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 19, at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. Attendees will sample hors d’oeuvres, main dishes, side dishes & desserts made by men and women they know in the community and then vote for their favorite to take home the “Peoples’ Choice Award” in each of the four categories.  Local media personalities, a handful of Geneva restaurant owners & chefs, politicians, business owners, community volunteers and many more are just the start. …

Pulitzer Winner, Dick Tracy Cartoonist Locher Coming to Geneva History Center

A conversation with Pulitzer winner Dick Locher is scheduled for March 9 as part of the Dick Tracy exhibit.

Pulitzer Prize winner Dich Locher, a nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist and a Dick Tracy cartoonist for more than 20 years, will be at the Geneva History Center on Saturday, March 9, to speak about his experience as an artist. From his early collaboration with Chester Gould, creator of the Dick Tracy series, to his current editorial publications in the Chicago Tribune, Locher has captivated and sparked the imaginations of a wide and varied audience. Along with a discussion about his work with Dick Tracy, Locher will provide insight into the world of editorial cartooning.  The Geneva History Center will host this program on Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at the History Center, 113 South Third St., Geneva. Geneva Remembers: Dick Jaeger, 1925-2012

Part 2 of a multipart series: Dick Jaeger was part of Geneva's history.

  On the same day Geneva lost legendary historian emeritus Merritt King, it lost another icon who was part of Geneva's history and played a key role in preserving it: Dick Jaeger. Like so many of the Jaeger family in Geneva, Dick was an active member of the community, a communicant of the old and new St. Peter Church in Geneva, a member of the Geneva School Board and Geneva History Center board. But he probably will be remembered most for constructing model replicas of Geneva's historic buildings for the Geneva History Center—award-winning pieces of folk art that are a reminder of his affection for his hometown. Photo Story: 2012 Creche Luncheon at the Geneva History Center

The annual Creche Luncheon at the Geneva History Center is something that should be on every Genevan's bucket list.

If you've never been to the Creche Luncheon at the Geneva History Center, put it on your bucket list, because it is fun, it's the perfect celebration of the season and it benefits a good cause. The Crèche Luncheon took place Thursday, Dec. 13, and has an encore  at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at 12:45 p.m. at the History Center, 113 South Third St. Proceeds from the sale of tickets will be used to conserve figures displayed in the crèche nativity scene. Students from Geneva High School culinary classes serve a gormet meal, complete with wine, coffee and dessert. Celebrate Holidays, Geneva History at 9th Annual Creche Luncheon

Fundraiser continues a Geneva tradition first established at the Little Traveler more than 80 years ago.

Plans are under way for the Geneva History Center's 9th Annual Creche Luncheon.  The Creche Luncheon is an annual fundraiser for the Geneva History Center and continues a Geneva tradition first established at the Little Traveler over 80 years ago.  In 1930, the Little Traveler's Kate Raftery purchased an antique Neapolitan nativity set which she displayed in a 17th century French Provincial corner bed.  The Creche became a focal point for a series of holiday luncheons showcasing this wonderful gem.  It now resides at the Geneva History Center where the Holiday tradition continues today.   The Creche Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, December 13, and Saturday, December 15, at 12:45 p.m. at the Geneva History Center, 113 South Third Street…

Geneva Giving Trees Coming Nov. 27 to the Geneva History Center

The unveiling of the fifth annual giving tree project is 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The Geneva History Center will unveil the 5th Annual Geneva Giving Trees at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27. There will be 15 Christmas trees decorated by various nonprofit groups that serve the Geneva area.   Each tree is decorated in accordance with each organization's mission and areas of service. The organizations include: The public is invited to vote for their favorite tree with their dollars from Nov. 27 until Dec. 27 at the Geneva History Center or online atwww.genevahistorycenter.org. The winning organization will keep 100 percent of the funds pledged to support their tree. The remaining organizations will split their winnings with the Geneva History Center. Geneva History Center's $30K Grant Honors Dick Jaeger

The "Greetings From Geneva" exhibit will debut with the the Geneva History Center's "Grand Re-Opening" in 2014, its 10th anniversary year.

Richard "Dick" Jaeger, one of Geneva's favorite sons and champions of history, is being honored through contributions to a substantial, matching grant for the Geneva History Center. The GHC will use a $30,000 Robinson Foundation Grant to complete a special project to enhance and expand the current award-winning exhibition titled Greetings From Geneva: A Trip Through History.   The matching grant's initial funding came from GHC supporters in memory of Jaeger. Today (Oct. 19) is your last chance to get pre-event pricing for the annual "Spirits of Geneva" Pub Crawl 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, to benefit the Geneva History Center sponsored by Euclid Beverage Ltd. Awesome 'Rural America' Art Exhibit at Geneva History Center

"A Celebration of Rural America" is a traveling exhibition of art during the late 1920s and '30s.

There's a terrific exhibit at the Geneva History Center right now, and a lot of folks haven't stopped in to see it yet. But you should. This is excellent. A Celebration of Rural America is a Blaire Murrah traveling exhibition of the most important movement in American art during the late 1920s and '30s. Included are original prints by three of the best known regionalists: Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry. The exhibit is Chicago quality and Geneva priced. Website Seeks Funds to Make Video on Fox River's History in Geneva

KickStarter project asks people to help fund a documentary video that would explore the early days of the settlements along the Fox.

"Let's produce a video documentary about the Fox River and how important it has been in the development of Geneva for over 175 years." That's the opening of the KickStarter website plug to find donors willing to help pay for The History of the Fox River in Geneva, Illinois video program. According to the website, the hope is "to explore the early days of Native American settlements in the Geneva area as well as the economic opportunities the river provided for such businesses as the Butter and Cheese Manufacturing Company, Bennett Mill, Howell Company and the Charles Pope Glucose Company to name just a few."
