Road Crew Hits Gas Main on Route 31 in St. Charles Friday

Route 31 was closed between Silver Glen and Crane Road to the south. Here's what happened.

A construction crew struck a gas main at the intersection of Route 31 and Red Gate Road at around 1:30 p.m. Friday, causing a Route 31 road closure and detour. Route 31 was closed between Silver Glen and Crane Road to the south. A detour has been established along Silver Glen to Randall Road, to Crane Road, according to a press release by Paul McCurtain, St. Charles public information coordinator. "We have been advised by NICOR that the repair may take in excess of five hours to repair, which would have the detour in effect until at least 7 p.m. (June 1)," McCurtain said. There were no reported injuries.
