Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Events in Kane County

From galas to walks to shopping, here's how you can participate, pledge support and donate to the cause in Kane County.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. Check out the list below of opportunities to go pink in Kane County and beyond: There are even more ways to spread breast cancer awareness this month by supporting national organizations that are fighting for a cure. Research centers like Susan G. Komen for the Cure are selling pink ribbon merchandise and it’s a twofer — retail therapy and donating to a cause that affects millions. You can also support breast cancer research by affixing a special stamp to your mail. The U.S. Postal Service has been selling a stamp commemorating breast cancer awareness for the past 15 years. Last Chance: Sign Up By Tuesday for Teen Night Owl Egg Hunt

It's Easter in Geneva! Sign up by March 27 for the Teen Night Owl Egg Hunt and pre-register younger kids for the Breakfast with the Easter Bunny and the annual egg hunt!

There's a pre-registration deadline of March 27 for the Teen Night Owl Egg Hunt, one of three big Easter events coming up for the Geneva Park District! Teen Night Owl Egg Hunt Calling all teens! Join the Geneva Park District for an egg hunt starting at 7:30 p.m. March 30 at Wheeler Park, at Route 31 and North Street. Teens will have a blast at finding eggs scattered around Wheeler Park filled with candy and prizes including a variety of gift certificates and more.  Cost is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Participants should bring their own flashlight. This event will be outside rain or shine, please dress appropriately. Pre-registration is required by March 27. Geneva Film Festival Kicks Off 2012 Event

Wonderful new films, new venue make the 2012 film festival in Geneva a special event.

With the Academy Awards just days away, the Geneva Film Festival celebrated the tipoff of its 2012 season Friday night with a soiree and a bunch of sneak previews. Meeting Friday night at Wildwood in Geneva, sponsors and supporters enjoyed a wine tasting and a glimpse at some of the films at this year's festival, which takes place March 29-31. Festival organizers are looking forward to an even bigger and better fifth annual event in 2012, which this year will be located for the first time at State Street Dance Studio—quite appropriately, in the buidling that is the former home of the Geneva Theater. Fox Valley Folk Fest Coming This Weekend!

There will be plenty of great music, tall tales and things to do for the whole family on Labor Day weekend at the 35th Annual Folk Festival.

The 35th Annual Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival starts with fun on Saturday and runs two full days over Labor Day weekend. From 11 a.m.  to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Sept. 4-5, the music of dulcimers, guitars, banjos, and fiddles will fill the air at Island Park along with folk tales and storytelling by performers from more than 15 states. Juel Ulven is the driving force behind the festival, having organized the event since 1977 at the height of the disco craze. A few hundred people attended then, but Ulven expects more than 5,000 people each day this year. While folk music may not be commercially popular, Ulven is driven by a sense of preservation.
