A fun-filled night of dancing ends with Geneva aldermen taking the top prize.
Between the two, this dance team racked up 143 years of experience, MC and Mayor Kevin Burns said during their introduction. And that's one of the reasons the Geneva aldermanic tandem of Sam Hill and Dorothy Flanagan are 2013 champions of Dancing With the Geneva Stars. Hill of the 1st Ward and Flanagan of the 4th wowed the Saturday night audience with a clever and fun Rumba that started with the twosome hobbling up with canes and finished with some hip movement that couldn't be matched by dancers half their age. Flanagan-Hill become the second-straight unmarried couple take home the top prize at Eagle Brook Country Club. The dancers in this year's Dancing With the Geneva Stars very well could be the most competitive group in the five-year history of the event. And if you're smart enough to sign up quickly, you'll get a chance to see all four past champions and compare for yourself. Eric and Elizabeth Ott met for the first time in 2001 at a Triathlon Time Trial at the Delnor Fitness Center while participating in some of their favorite activities — running, biking and swimming. Although they did not get together for a few years, they ran in the same circle of people who encouraged their friendship. As of Aug. 10, the Otts celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary. They made Geneva their hometown about 2 ½ years ago because they always enjoyed the area for biking on the Fox River Trail, hanging out at Island Park and experiencing the town’s atmosphere and friendly people. Justin and Katlyn Eggar are St. Charles residents who just moved here two years ago to be closer to family, especially their nephew. They met in North Carolina, where Justin was one of Katlyn’s customers at work, and they have been married for three years. They are currently the agency owners of Eggar Allstate in Geneva. Their agency was voted “One of the Best Insurance Agencies” in Kane County by the Kane County Chronicle Reader’s Choice Awards. As small business owners, they are members of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce through which they help sponsor and volunteer for Swedish Days, Festival of the Vine, and the Christmas Walk.
