Hey, Mom and Dad: Did You Tell The Kids Who You Voted For This Election?

Parents, Patch wants to hear from you on the questions that get families talking.

Welcome to "Hey, Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature where we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area. Elections and the associated politics can be difficult for young minds to grasp. Still, it's hard to imagine last week's election went unnoticed by our country's young citizens and it's safe to bet they had some questions about the process. That brings us to this week's question. Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section. Dawn Conde Burghardt: Yes I did tell my daughter who I voted for. I have always told her. This election was…

State Sen. and County Board chairman candidate Chris Lauzen responds to Geneva Mayor and County Board candidate Kevin Burns' press release on garbage incineration.

To the Editor: I have not proposed a “garbage incineration” plan. In fact, my legislative record includes opposition to the Robbins, IL, incineration plant with then state Sen. Peter Fitzgerald and Pat O’Malley. My top priorities are “freeze the county property tax levy," “treat people with respect," and “provide honest, competent administration of county functions” through innovation and austerity. Thomas Edison remarked, “Invention is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.” In order for us to innovate and bring global best practices to benefit Kane County citizens and taxpayers, we must be willing to survey every safe modern technology that may improve residents’ quality-of-life. I favor comprehensive reviews in all areas of …

Obviously Mike you are an opponent of Sen. Lauzen's. No matter what anyone says you will continue this tirade. People who know Sen. Lauzen will dismiss your vitriole as simply that. Remember this is a DEMOCRAT controlled state--and has been for YEARS. Ask any Republican legislative member how easy it's been to get any responsible or substantive fiscal change accomplished. It's no wonder we're in …   more ›
