About 100 adults were evacuated Friday after initial reports of a possible Freon leak at Mooseheart.
About 100 adults were evacuated from a Mooseheart administrative building by 4:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, following a report of a possible Freon leak, Mooseheart officials said. The evacuation was from the Moose International headquarters building, the easternmost building on the campus of Mooseheart Child City & School. Officials at 5:30 p.m. actually discovered a minor refrigeration leak, a Tri-Com command report said. Batavia Battalion Chief Ed Jancauskas confirmed the minor leak and said that a mechanical engineer was at the scene late Friday afternoon looking at the building's system. The National Weather Service and Tri-Com are announces a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Kane County until 7 p.m.
A fast moving thunderstorm caused several power issues across the Tri-Cities late Friday morning. In St. Charles a downed tree at a house on 3rd Street brought down some power lines. City crews were dispatched to repair the lines and power should be restored to the affected homes by 1 p.m., said Tom Bruhl, electric services manager in St. Charles. Possible lightening strikes also temporarily interrupted service in some parts of town, Bruhl said. A portion of Kirk Road was backed up due to what appeared to be downed wires between Geneva Road and Avril Court. Emergency service personnel were on the scene. Firefighters from several agencies responded to a fire in the 500 block of Edison Street.
A fire engulfed a business in the 500 block of Edison St. in Geneva late Saturday afternoon. At about 3:45 p.m. firefighters were breaking windows as smoke billowed through the windows of a building with a yard sign that says "Ray Construction," and a sign in the window that says "Custom Cabinets." A firefighter was on the roof of the building while others prepared to contain the blaze. No official report is available at this time.
