Cops on the Roof of Dunkin' Donuts

Batavia and Geneva police departments will be teaming up to support the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

On Friday, May 31, the Batavia and Geneva Police Departments will be teaming up to support the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Both agencies will have officers on hand at the Dunkin Donuts store located on the corner of Wilson Street and Randall Road from 6 a.m. to noon. Officers will be collecting donations from patrons and will have police officers on the rooftop of Dunkin Donuts to support the cause. All of the money collected will support Special Olympics Illinois.

Five Cited for Underage Drinking at Batavia Home

Batavia police arrested four and cited one juvenile for underage drinking May 19 at a residence in the 400 block of Wolcott Lane, reports said. The arrest around 12:36 a.m. May 19 and includes the host of the party under a separate charge, according to state law. Arrestees include: All the arrestees were cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor and have a court date of June 18, reports said. Beginning Jan. 1, 2013, Illinois state law has a little more teeth for those who host underage drinking parties. It is a Class A misdemeanor to host such events, which carries a fine of at least $500, and if there is injury or death resulting from an accident by any of the party-goers, the penalty can be as stringent as a Class 4 felony.   Patch …

Rottweiler Gets Pepper Sprayed After Charging Police Officer

A Rotweiler and Bull Mastiff escape, and when the Rottweiler charges a police officer in Batavia for a second time, the dog gets a dose of pepper spray.

A Rottweiler dog took a dose of pepper spray after it charged a Batavia police officer early Saturday morning, Batavia police reports said. Batavia police responded to a complaint about a Rottweiller and Bull Mastiff running loose around 12:44 a.m. May 18 in the 200 block of South Harrison Street, reports said. The reporting officer located the dogs and exited his squad car, when the Rottweiler charged the officer. The officer then "got back in his squad car," reports said. When the officer got out of his car again, the Rottweiler charged to within 3 feet, and the officer gave the dog "a quick burst of pepper spray," and the dog turned away. I too am saddened to read the comments that coldly suggest that the dog should have been shot, especially since an officer of the law who has had plenty of training obviously thought through the situation and used this method of force before reaching for his weapon. PHOTO/VIDEO UPDATE: Accident With Injuries Stops Traffic on Randall Road

An apparent two-vehicle crash sends drivers to Delnor Hospital as southbound Randall Road is shut down around 10 a.m. Monday, May 20.

Batavia police and fire officials had to shut down southbound Randall Road for at least a half hour Monday to clear the road and transport drivers to Delnor Hospital. The crash took place around 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, near the intersection of Randall Road and Mill Street, Tri-Com Dispatch scanner reports said. Southbound Randall Road remained blocked by emergency vehicles as of 10:35 a.m. Vehicles were being rerouted through business parking lots during the crash cleanup. Tri-Com reports said there were injuries in the crash, and ambulances were leaving in the director of Delnor Hospital around 10:20 a.m. Patch will update this article when information is available from official sources.

Batavia police reports always contain some items that don't fall under a prescribed or common category. Here are a few that took place between May 6 and May 12, 2013. Found Property—A complainant found a green bag containing property belonging to a female resident of Batavia, according to a report filed around 6:47 a.m. May 11. The officer was unable to locate the subject at the time the report was filed. Dog Bite—Officers reported to Payne Woods Park, 2020 Gillenwater, when Tri-Com reported a 7-year-old had been bitten by a dog, according to a report filed around 3:50 p.m May 11. The dog was a Lhasa Apso. The owner of the dog and the victim’s mother were notified. The owner completed a Kane County animal bite form. Death Natural Causes—…

Four driving-under-the-influence reports were filed by Batavia and Geneva police departments in blotter reports collected this week. DUI—Geneva police arrested Juan Toniz, 41, of Geneva on charges of unlawful or fictitious identification card and driving under the influence of alcohol around 11:30 a.m. May 1 in the 700 block of North Street, reports said. His vehicle was towed to Duke and Lee’s Service Corp., 609 Batavia Ave. DUI, Possession of Cannabis—Geneva police arrested Sean Hamman, 23, of Wheaton on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of cannabis less than 2.5 grams and driving on the sidewalk after a traffic stop around 5:12 a.m. May 3, reports said. Unusual Thefts Include 'Quick Change,' Stolen Trailer and a 30-Gallon Garbage Can

A quick-change transaction is when a scammer pays with a big bill and then convinces the clerk to give back more change than was due.

Some unusual thefts were found in this week's Batavia blotter, including a stolen trailer and a "quick-change" transaction.  Theft Over $500—Someone took an iPhone valued at $800 as well as $6 in cash from a student at Rotolo Middle School, 1501 S. Raddant Road, reports said. The report was filed around 1:11 a.m. April 28. Theft Under $500—Someone took a Veolia 30-gallon garge can on wheels valued at $100. The report was made around 9:01 a.m. April 24 in the 300 block of North Jefferson Street, reports said. Theft Under $500—Someone did a “quick-change transaction” around 9 p.m. April 23 at Mobil gas station, 2074 Main St., reports said. The report was filed around 11:23 a.m. April 24. Cannabis Tales: 'Look What I Found' in Vacant Apartment

Two marijuana-related reports were filed in local police department blotters this week—including one unusual case of a four bags of marijuana left in a vacant apartment. Found Property—A maintenance employee found four plastic bags containing suspected cannabis and reported the find to police around 3:18 p.m. April 12 at Lorlyn Apartments, 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle, reports said. “It appears the bags had been in the vacant apartment for a long period of time,” reports said. The material was entered into evidence. Possession of Cannabis Less Than 31 Grams—Batavia police arrested Brett M. 5 Cases of Credit Card Fraud Reported in Batavia

Police Reports: One of the payments is a $3,146 charge at Key-Mat Equipment Co.

Batavia Police Department files included five cases in which someone reported fraud from a credit-card payment. Fraud—Someone stole a pre-loaded credit card around 6:14 p.m. April 2 in the 100 block of Webster Street, reports said. Credit Card Fraud — Someone reported credit card fraud after being charged $39.99 for an online transaction around 12:30 p.m. April 1, reports said. The case was referred to investigations. Credit Card Fraud—Someone used a fraudulent credit card to pay $3,146.25 at Key-Mat Equipment Co., 550 N. River St., sometime around 10:21 a.m. April 3, reports said.
