2 Accidents at Kirk and State on Jan. 20

dek

Don't let the "North Kirk Road" and "South Kirk Road" subheads fool you. These are two accidents on the same day, and basically at the same place: intersection of Kirk Road and East State Street. East State is, of course, Route 38, and Kirk Road is actually Highway 77, according to the police reports. There was only between $501 and $1,500 damage to any one vehicle in both accidents, but it goes to show that Kirk and State on Jan. 20 was not a safe place to be. Accident on South Kirk Road—The passenger side of a Hyundai Sonata driven by Thomas McShane, 57, of Algonquin collided with the rear of a Jeep Cherokee driven by William Klinowski, 44, of Geneva around 2:35 p.m. Jan 20 in the 0-99 block of South Kirk Road (Highway 77) about 100 feet…

How Slippery Was it Dec. 29? At Least 12 Accidents in Geneva

The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

I counted 12 Dec. 29 accidents when I collected the lot Tuesday at the Geneva Police Department. If you'll recall, Dec. 29 also was the day the commuter train smashed into a car on Route 38 at the tracks in West Chicago. Slippery roads were part of the blame in that one. That also was the day Geneva police sent the Nixle e-blast to warn drivers to "be careful out there" on icy roads. There might be additional accounts of Dec. 29 accidents that trickle in during the next few days, but you get an idea of what police had to deal with by scanning the list of accidents below.  Accident With Injuries on East Fabyan Parkway—The front of a Jeep Liberty driven by Horacio Razimoff, 48, of St. Charles collided with the front of an Oldsmobile Alero …

Poll: What Should Be Done About Spate of Accidents on Kirk Road?

Recent accident reports show a number of serious accidents on Kirk Road. Is it coincidence or is there anything the authorities should do to make it safer?

There have been a number of recent accidents on Kirk Road, and the thoroughfare has a long history of accident reports. The spectacular car fire that happened at the intersection on Dec. 13 really doesn't count as an accident, but the Dec. 8 accident that injured an 85-year-old woman was the fourth incident in the last two months to significantly affect traffic on Kirk Road. Previous to that crash were: If you do a quick search of Kirk Road accidents on Geneva or Batavia Patch, you'll see a laundry list of accidents on Kirk Road between St. Charles and Batavia. Considering the recent number of accidents, should authorities reconsider ways to make the road safer?

if all these accidents were properly documented,we could have an intelligent conversation, about Kirk Road! Without knowing the specifics of each accident, we are "spitting into the wind",and have no idea, how to evaluate the "problem'! Its my personal opinion that inattentiveness is probably the major culprit ,as with the amount of traffic that Kirk road carries, and the speed's that are posted, …   more ›

Anyone notice a pattern here? Most of these accidents were caused by someone running into the vehicle ahead of them. This is caused by "tailgating," and NO, I am not referring to bar-b-que parties at football games. I see this every day, usually in my rear view mirror. It's someone "in a hurry" driving ten feet from my rear bumper at 50 mph, while I'm thinking, "If I have to stop, CAN YOU?" Folks…   more ›
