The following information was supplied by the Geneva Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

An Elgin driver's confusion over pedestrian-crossing signs on South Third Street contributed to Tuesday's three-car accident that pushed one vehicle onto the sidewalk next to the Geneva Post Office, Geneva police reports indicate. According to reports, a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Samsam Turkman, 65, of Elgin was travelling east on James Street and stopped at the stop sign at South Third Street as a Hyundai Sonata driven by Violeta Flores, 77, was travelling north on Third Street. Reports said Turkman saw the yellow pedestrian crosswalk stop sign for northbound traffic, …

I asked someone years ago what it would take to try to get the bike lane/routes similar to that of South Street by the PW bldg. and I was told, just for striping it was a crazy number. But yes, moving away from corners is a huge must. Especially, if you have a giant SUV OVER the line.   more ›

Bicyclist Ticketed After Collision With Car

Geneva Police Reports: In a rare case, the bicyclist is given a warning ticket after colliding with a car at a busy Geneva intersection.

It's said that "dog bites man" isn't news, but "man bites dog" qualifies. In a similar way, when a car hits a bicyclist, the usual result is a ticket—and maybe a lawsuit—against the driver of the motor vehicle. An unusual case found in this week's Geneva police reports is closer to the "man bites dog" variety, because police say the injured bicyclist was the one at fault. And the cyclist admits it. According to Geneva reports, the left side of a Trek 7500 mountain bicycle riden by Kelleen Bodine, 46, of Geneva was struck by a Toyota Corolla driven by Idy Spezzano, 42, of Geneva around 8:40 a.m. July 26 at the intersection of Batavia Avenue (Route 31) and Fargo Boulevard. I took my foot off my brake and within a blink of an email, the left side of my car was hit by the biker. There were witnesses. Get your facts straight before judging others!   more ›
