The more, the merrier. Now there are at least four who have shown an interest in replacing Sam Hill as Geneva's 1st Ward alderman.
Democracy is alive and well in Geneva, at least if the number of aldermanic candidates is any measure. Historic Preservation Commission member Mike Bruno said Tuesday that he's going to run for the 1st Ward spot that Sam Hill has held for the past 12 years. Hill announced at Monday night's City Council Committee of the Whole meeting that he would not run in the April 9 election. The COW straw poll was 8-2 to amend the city ordinance that makes that restriction, and Stockholm's owner Mike Olesen said he was ready and willing to run. Zac Ploppert already had formally announced his candidacy for the 1st Ward at a press …
First Ward Alderman Sam Hill argues to change the rules that prohibit citizens who hold liquor licenses from serving on the council, and the Committee of the Whole supports him in an 8-2 straw poll vote, opening the door for Stockholm's owner Mike Olesen.
First Ward Alderman Sam Hill dropped the bombshell Monday that he would not be seeking re-election as 1st Ward alderman, a position he's held for almost 12 years. "I do intend to run, yes," Olesen said after the Committee of the Whole ended at about 10:20 p.m. Monday night. "Basically, I love Geneva, and I think it’s worth working for and fighting for to make it the best community it can be. It's a fantastic place to grow up, my whole life is invested here, and I look forward to running should the council follow through and vote in…
