St. Charles East Top Geneva for Regional Baseball Title

The Fighting Saints defeated the Vikings 5-2 in 6½ innings Saturday morning in Geneva.

The St. Charles East Fighting Saints took an early lead and held on to defeat the Geneva Vikings 5-2 Saturday morning for the regional boys baseball title. The Saints, the designated home team by season’s ranking, met Geneva on the Viking’s home field, taking an early 3-1 lead in the first inning. East advanced to 4-1 in the third, and grabbed another in the fifth, leaving Geneva with four scoreless innings in a row before entering the top of the seventh. Illinois State Treasurer to Unveil New I-Cash Outreach Tool in Geneva

The latest technology tool helps reunite people with their unclaimed cash. More than 172,000 owners in Kane County have $36 million in unclaimed property.

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford will be in northern Illinois next week to reveal the latest technology tool for Illinoisans to help reunite people with their unclaimed cash or other assets. Rutherford is encouraging Kane County residents to try out this tool at his I-Cash event in the area on Wednesday, May 29. Visitors will determine if the state is holding any money or unclaimed property entitled to them. In fact, 172,184 owners in Kane County have $36,216,632 in unclaimed property. This is according to the January list of unclaimed property holders. Car Stolen and Cars Broken Into in 1-Night Spree in Eagle Brook

Stolen property ranges from as small as a pack of mints to as large as an SUV.

If all the crimes are connected, someone had a field day in the Eagle Brook subdivision on the night of May 16 or early morning May 17, with items stolen ranging from a pack of mints to a full-sized sport utility vehicle. Geneva Police Department reports show three vehicle burglaries and a car stolen outright in the area of Galway Court, Croydon Court and Heather Road. Here are the blotter items: Theft of Motor Vehicle—Someone stole a gray 2003 Chevrolet Suburban from a driveway of a home in the 1200 block of Galway Court sometime between 11 p.m. May 16 and 5 a.m. May 17, reports said. The owner told police he packed supplies into his Suburban for an upcoming bicycle trip, and when he woke up at around 5 a.m., the vehicle was gone. There …

HINSDALE A female at her home on the 800 block of Chanticleer Lane reported that someone was looking through a window at her on May 14 while she was partially undressed. The female recognized the suspect as William Drew Daniel, 28, who lives on the same block, police said. Police at 8:39 p.m. quickly located Daniel at his home. He was charged with disorderly conduct and released to appear in court. DOWNERS GROVE A 25-year-old woman is headed to court after she was found with marijuana blunts and texting while driving with her baby in Downers Grove, police said. Lauren Iacovella, of the first block of Redstart Road, Naperville, was charged with possession of cannabis 30 grams and under. She also received a ticket for texting behind the …

Windows Broken—Again—at Heartland Elementary School

Similar to a report filed a week earlier, someone apparently is using stones to break windows at the West Side elementary school.

Whether it's the same people doing the damage is a matter of speculation, but for two weeks in a row, someone smashed windows at Heartland Elementary School, according to Geneva Police Department reports. In a previous report, someone broke four windows on the north side of the school at 3300 Heartland Drive, sometime between May 7 and 6 May 8. Three windows—measuring 52 inches by 18 inches—appeared to have been struck by a rock. In the latest report, three windows were broken sometime between 5 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. May 14, reports said. The three windows were located at the northwest corner of the building and appeared to be damaged by some kind of projectile, reports said. Higher Speed Limit Bill Heads to Gov's Desk

Jim Oberweis' bill for a 70 mph speed limit on rural interstates is not a done deal yet, however.

A bill to increase the maximum speed limit in Illinois could hit Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk for signature soon. Whether Quinn will sign it remains to be seen. The bill, introduced by Republican state. Sen. Jim Oberweis, would raise the speed limit on rural Illinois highways to 70 mph. The bill, which has passed both chambers of the state legislature, has been met with opposition due to safety concerns by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, according to the Chicago Tribune. “The progression of this legislation is a good example of what can be accomplished when lawmakers work together in a bipartisan manner for the good of our state,” Oberweis said. “It was sponsored by …
