Weekend Planner: Barn Sale, Football, Kite Flying and More!

A huge football game, the spectacular St. Peter Church Barn Sale, a kite festival and an art studio tour just of a few of the big events coming up this weekend!

As always, the weekend is going to be spectacular in Geneva. Here's a look ahead at just a few of the highlights. (If we missed anything, please add it to the Events on Geneva Patch!)


(1) 100th Anniversary Geneva-Batavia Football Game!


"Whoa, Nellie!" The 100th anniversary of one of the great high-school football rivalries in Illinois history should be a hum-dinger. The sophs start at 5:30 p.m.; varsity at around 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Burgess Field in Geneva.


(2) St. Peter Barn Sale!


This is the Hoss-and-a-Half of barn sales, as Keith Jackson might have said. St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva is hosting its GIGANTIC Barn Sale at the Kane County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 


(3) Let's Go Fly a Kite!


Oh, oh, oh
Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite

The FREE 3rd Annual Kite Festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Peck Farm Park’s South Athletic Fields. The first 500 kids will receive a free paper kite to color, assemble and fly courtesy of BMO Harris Bank.

(4) Geneva Art Guild Studio Tour



The 2013 Art Studio Tour will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 13 to 15.  The event will showcase the talents of more than 30 area artists and will feature nine working studios. Patrons will be able to observe the work of painters, potters, fiber artists, jewelers, sculptors, metalworkers and woodworkers. Artists will be giving demonstrations during the tour, and all artwork will be available for purchase.

Studio tour times are 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 and noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 15.

(5) Aurora Art League 55th Annual Members Show at Geneva History Center

A fine art show and sale by members of the Aurora Art League will be presented 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Geneva History Center Community Room, 113 South Third St., Geneva. An artists’ reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept 13, open to the public.
