Weekend Picks: Geneva's Magical Christmas Walk, House Tours, Steeple Walk

This is one of the most-fun weekends of the year in Geneva. Make sure to take part!

If you're new to Geneva, this upcoming weekend is one of the most fun of the year. Just bundle up, because it's supposed to be cold, but get inside those stores for a little warmth, holiday spirit and wonderful deals.

Geneva turns into a picture post card during the Christmas Walk, which begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in downtown Geneva. Third Street is closed off, the big tree a the courthouse is lighted, Santa Lucia is introduced, Santa arrives, chestnuts literally are roasted on an open fire.

Christmas Walk fun spills into Saturday, when the All Chocolate Kitchen celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Guinness Book of World Records completion of the world's longest candy cane. And that's just one of many events going on during the day.

Five distinctive homes are decorated for the holidays for the House Tour that takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Five distinctive homes are decorated for the holidays.

The Steeple Walk is Sunday. The Steeple Walk, held the Sunday after Geneva's Christmas Walk, is a rare opportunity to sample several holiday musical performances in the setting of some of Geneva’s historic churches: the United Methodist Church, Geneva Lutheran Church, Unitarian Universalist Society and First Church of Christ Scientist.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg regarding what's going on this weekend in Geneva. See our Events page for details. There's also the Geneva-Batavia boys and girls basketball double-header at Batavia and the fundraiser for Washington, IL, tornado relief, the Playhouse 38 grand opening celebrationLions and Leos Pancake Breakfast With Santa Dec. 7TCFS Snowflake Shuffle 5K Run/Walk, the Candlelight Event at Durant House Museum in St. Charles and much, much more.
