Geneva's May 18 Gardenology Festival Is Gardening Extravaganza!

Weekend Things: If you love to be in the garden, you'll want to be in Geneva this weekend.

A: Gardenology

Q: What is the scientic discipline of interior living-room design for a toothy Illinois river fish?

Get it? Gar - Den - Ology?

OK, Carnak the Magnificent we're not. But we DO know that you'll find—to paraphrase the Ed McMahon intro—EVERYTHING YOU'VE EVER WANTED TO KNOW about gardening right here in Geneva, IL, this weekend.

Gardenology is "all about all things gardening," the Gardenology website will tell you.

Its mission: To provide quality sources of information about horticulture, wildlife, and useful and decorative products to encourage the public to garden for the cultural and aesthetic enrichment of their own lives, homes, and community.

Geneva's Gardenology Festival will be held rain or shine on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18, 2013, in downtown Geneva—from the Kane County Courthouse down to the Metra Train Station.

Gardenology advisers and vendors will bring their best ideas and garden related products to jump-start your gardening season. Experts in every horticulture field including farming, landscape design, weavers, local nurseries, and more will be on hand to answer your questions.

Topics include herbs, flowers, vegetables, heirloom plants and perennials.  Learn about attracting birds and butterflies, wildlife control, composting, organic fertilizers and more.

Check out the 2013 Activities & Offers page for a comprehensive list of the specials, demonstrations, children's activities, speakers, as well as some of the special items for sale. Visit the Speaker's Tent page for a schedule of speakers and topics.

The speaker’s tent for the fifth annual event will be located on the lawn of Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. Third St., where 14 different presentations be held throughout the day. Topics range from landscape design and pond construction to photographing nature spirits and making hummus.

Kids will love the Birds of Prey—Live Raptors exhibition presented by Mark Spreyer of Stillman Nature Center. A complete list of speakers and times can be found at http://www.gardenologygenevail.com/.

Deb Hilton and Sue Hadley of Country Naturals are the organizers.

More than 50 experts will be on hand to answer your questions and offer advice. Plants and accessories will be available for purchase.
